Shivaling is recipient of Techno Mentor award from India Semiconductor Association. He has
the honour of starting the first IC design activity in India in 1988-89.

He is Chairman Emeritus of KarMic Design Centre (KarMic) Pvt Limited, a well respected IC
design services company. KarMic was started as a business venture of Testchip Technologies
that he co-founded with Mark Harward and Brenda Stoner.

Pranjal Microelectronics Private Limited (Formerly KarMic Training and Research Centre )
provided engineers to KarMic and has trained 400 engineers in the 15 years of existence and
the alumni have contributed approximately $150 Million (~900 Crore rupees) to the Indian
economy. Since 2007 he has been training poor rural 10 th standard students mixed signal IC
design in Mallapur/Nesarg and Kalagar/Sirsii to become chip designers in three years, an
experiment to contest Tier-N city arguments and traditional teaching methods. Of these 40
are working for MNCs in Bangalore side by side with other engineers and 100 are in training.

In Mallapur/Nesargi, Bailhongal and Kalagar/Sirsi, he is involved in research related to


agriculture and increasing potential for local potentials.

Prior to this engagement, he worked in R&D laboratories of Texas Instruments, Dallas for 17
years. He started the first chip design activity in India in 1988-89 (for Texas Instruments
India).

He was elected Distinguished Member of Technical Staff and Senior Member Technical Staff.
He holds 65 patents and is an author of 35 technical papers.

Shivaling S Mahant-Shetti obtained a doctorate from Brown University in 1977 in electrical


sciences after a Master's from the same school and B Tech with Honours from IIT Bombay.
His high school education was in King George School, Belgaum (Now Rashtriya School ) and M
J High school Bailhongal.

He enjoys Jolada Rotti, Sabbasige Palle and Menthe Palle.
