We are pleased to present our Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) for Professional Landscape Architecture and
Arboricultural Services. We look forward to teaming with you and providing the City of Carmel with the various
services provided by our landscape architectural team.
Tanaka Design Group (TDG) has extensive experience working with municipal government entities that, like the
City of Carmel, have similar landscape and planning requirements for various capital improvement projects, all of
which require specialized knowledge of federal, state and local landscape regulations such as ADA, C.3 storm
water treatment, and water efficient landscape ordinance (WELO).
More importantly, we understand the nature of public agency service contracts in which our role is to responsively
serve as an extension of staff to provide the expertise and resources required to accomplish municipal client
goals of timely, cost effective and efficient project implementation.
A landscape architecture and urban design firm since 1994, TDG has provided a full range of services from
project programming, site analysis, schematic design and design development to construction documentation,
bidding and construction administration, compliance evaluation, and research.
We would be honored to join you and your team at the City of Carmel in fulfilling any or all of the services outlined
in the RFQ for landscape architecture and arboricultural services.
a. The location of the firms office closest to the City of Carmel is 360 Langton Street, Suite 102, San
Francisco, CA 94103.
b. The majority of the work will not be performed locally, but nearby in San Francisco County. We have
worked on numerous projects in Monterey County.
c. The regional office representative who is able to legally execute agreements and amendments with the
City of Carmel is Robert Tanaka, Principal.

Amenities include a custom-designed shade structure, precast concrete benches, and a picnic table with
overhead solar panels to energize movie projectors or microphones.

prepare a streetscape master plan and design guidelines. Details such entry monuments, signage and site
furnishings were developed in addition to traffic and parking layout recommendations. The final document was
used for fund raising and grant seeking purposes. Subsequently, TDG was hired to prepare the construction
documents.

6. Description of Project and Relevance to this Service Area (include scope, size, cost, etc.):
Located at the staging area of a walking trail in the Bernal neighborhood of Pleasanton, Cubbys Dog Park is the
citys second off leash dog. The 1.5-acre site includes a small dog-only area in addition to an all size dog
enclosure. Amenities include two shade structures, benches, tables, drinking fountains for dogs and humans,
agility structures, and ample native trees to integrate the site into the surrounding recreational area. Surface
material is wood fiber.

6. Description of Project and Relevance to this Service Area (include scope, size, cost, etc.):
Tanaka Design Group was the prime consultant for the site and landscaping surrounding the Hodgett +Fung
designed building located on the campus of Menlo Atherton High School. The $33 million Performing Arts Center
community centerpiece was funded by the neighboring cities and the Sequoia Union High School District. Tanaka
Design Group redesigned the entire vehicular circulation system and expanded the much-needed parking lots;
both of which alleviated the critical mass created by the daily drop-off and pickup of students by parents. Project
elements included the design of plazas and courtyards for students and theater attendees, preservation of
massive oak trees, way-finding and entry monument signage, and a perimeter wall that helped blend the
development with the surrounding community.
