The influences of nursing transformational leadership style on the quality of nurses working

lives in Taiwan: a cross-sectional quantitative study


Introduction: Leaders should be able to influence and inspire others, develop strategies, organize
resources and empower people. The leader is in a position with multiple dimensions, such as being a
clinical expert in their field as well as being a manager in a hospital.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional quantitative study. Nurses from each type of hospital ownership
(private, public and religious) were recruited. Participation was voluntary and signed informed consent
was obtained. The inclusion criteria were nurses with at least one years work experience in the hospitals.
Self-administrated questionnaires were used. A total of 807 participants were contacted and 651
questionnaires were fully completed (response rate 80.7 %). A theory driven model was used to test the
research hypotheses using structural equation modelling performed with AMOS 16.0.

Results: Transformational leadership contributes significantly to supervisor support. Organizational


commitment was the strongest factor relevant to the general health well-being in Taiwanese nurses than
job satisfaction.

Discusion: their findings have important consequences for organizational health and demonstrates a
complete picture of the work relationships on the quality of nurses working lives. The results provided
information about the subordinates perceptions of transformational nursing leadership styles and mental
health outcomes in different hospital settings, as well as identified organizational factors that could
improve the quality of nurses working lives.

Reflection: This journal is beneficial to the management in surgery in which this is a more accurate basis
for transformational leadership shows a significant role in improving the working lives of nurses.

- In nursing practice, this journal may enhance our knowledge education in management in division
of work to provide quality care and to improve our skills. The care that we provide increases
when all of us are helping each other since transformational leadership means that the leader will
teach and learn from his/her subordinates.

- In nursing research, this study contributes as an on future researches. The information presented
in this study may be used by researchers as part of their literature review as they find it as a basis
for a better method for a type of leadership which is Transformational.

- In nursing education, this study provides nursing academicians with information that may be
added in their discussions as a guide for student nurses when caring for patients in terms of
management and leadership. Transformational leadership is like a democratic way of handling
since everyone is equal.
