Speech for 15th February 2017

Go Wisely And Slowly. Those Who Rush Stumble And Fall.

Dont you all agree, my enthusiastic audience ? These words of wisdom were written by the
versatile genius , William Shakespeare , who was an English poet , playwright and actor that was
regarded as the greatest writer in the English Language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist.

A very good morning I bid to my affectionate teacher , Miss Ayesha Thilakam binti Abd
Manaf , and my ever-so-daring fellow classmates. How are you all doing ? I hope that all of you
are as happy as clams. Now, William Shakespeare was known as one of the worlds greatest
playwright because of his unique and intricate style of writing. His works were used as a form of
entertainment for both the rich and the poor. His plays appealed to the masses and survived the
hands of time, but little is known about man who wrote so beautifully .So, his life remains a
mystery to us.

In 1564 , a child from the streets of Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire which is a

landlocked county in the West Midlands of England was born to the loving couple , John
Shakespeare and Mary Arden. Sooner in his life , he married Anne Hathaway and had three
children who were Susanna and a pair of twins named, Hamnet and Judith. He soon became
successful in the mid 1580s until 1590s.

Shakespeare was known for his originality in his writings such as Sonnet 18 which is Shall I
Compare Thee To A Summers Day and Sonnet 116 Let me not to the marriage of true minds
.Other than that, he had also written over 30 plays but only published 18 of them. He was indeed
an inspiration for others but he soon retired at the age of 49 where he died three years later on the
23th of April in 1616. The cause of Shakespeare's death is a mystery, but an entry in the diary
of John Ward, the vicar of Holy Trinity Church in Stratford (where Shakespeare was buried),
tells us that "Shakespeare, Drayton, and Ben Jonson had a merry meeting and it seems that they
drank too hard, for Shakespeare died of a fever contracted there.

For all he had done , I feel that Shakespeare should be respected more than he is today but
sadly ,the modern society do not take interest upon old arts and cultures such as the ones that he
wrote. Men should think twice before judging ones work rather than assuming that it is boring
beforehand. That is all for my speech today. Thank you everyone for lending me your ears.
