Tallys Encouragement

Have you ever get motivated by something or someone? If

you have no motivation, Are you going to give up on what are you
doing? Motivation is something that makes you inspired to do
something. The purpose of this essay is to identify Tallys
motivation in the Uglies. Tally, the main got motivated by many
things such as love, friendships, and being pretty.

The first thing that motivated Tally was being pretty. In The
Uglies, being pretty was one of the conformities. Therefore,
everybody wanted to be pretty. When they are pretty, they were
not looked down by others. They had more expectation than uglies
did. Being pretty also represented their social status. Moreover,
pretties got more support and attention. They had more freedom.
Besides, uglies were judged by their appearance, and they were
overlooked by some pretties. Being uglies was harder to make
friends because the society accepted people who were pretty more.
Pressure is a good motivation as well. Tally had to be pretty in
order to test the pill which Davids mother invented. This pill
prevented the mind from changing after turning to pretty. Tally also
fell guilty to shay who had changed appearance and mind so she
needed to test the pill.

The second thing that encouraged Tally was friendships. Tally

and Peris promised to be best friends as Tally whispered: Best
friends forever. (p.9). But one day, Peris turned into pretty when
she was 16 years old and he had to live in Pretty town. As a result,
Tally wanted to be pretty in order to be able to live in the Pretty
town with Peris. Friendships between Shay and Tally also motivated
Tally. Shay and David were Tallys new friend who she met later.

The last thing that motivated Tally was love. First of all, she
loved Peris as she was her best friend forever as stated above.
Secondly, Her parents have effects on her acts. Although they were
not mentioned much in the story. We can see that they are one of
the motivations of Tally. In the story, 12-year-old uglies had to be
separated from their families. After she met Dr.Cable fort the first
time, she also met her parent again. They made Tally fell better and
helped her to make decisions. Lastly, David was her new friend who
was introduced by Shay. He is a good guy, and Tally loved him.
