PLATTSBUGRH The SUNY Plattsburgh mens soccer team finished Saturdays

game with a nail-biting 2-1 victory over non-conference rival Skidmore College.

The win was more than just another notch on the victory column, as junior defenseman

Nick Economou said.

We havent beaten them in two years. We tied them last year and lost my freshman year.

Overall, the win was a great feeling.

Skidmore got on the board first with a goal by Todd Jensen during the ninth minute of the

game. Jensen scored on a free-kick that soared passed Plattsburgh goaltender, Mitchell Jordon.

Economou would tie it up 40 minutes later when he knocked in a free-kick by teammate

Fabian Chaparro, a senior midfielder.

I was really ecstatic. I dont get that many chances in front of the goal so when I finally

got the opportunity to jump up and score, I got really excited, Economou said.

The physical matched continued to sway back and forth for the rest of the game, tallying

seven yellow cards between the two teams.

However, the momentum would favor the Cardinals towards the end of the match as for-

ward Alexis Archival netted his sixth of the season with only a few minutes remaining.

Mitchell Jordon helped thwart the attack of the Thoroughbreds by stopping 7 of their 8

shots. He credited the hard work of his team

We knew they were going to be a tough opponent. It was important for us to go out

there with energy and play our game to beat them, Jordan said.
The win expanded the Cardinals record to an undefeated 8-0.

They will try to continue to keep the streak alive at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday against St.

Lawrence University.
