SOFTWARE INSTALLATION

This software does not include the basic bootstrap files which your
system is supposed to have. If KENPAVE cannot be run, as indicated by an
error message that a certain file cannot be found, you should be able to
find and copy it in the Windows\System folder of late model computers or
the computers in your Computer Lab. If you still have any problems, please
contact Dr. Huang at yhuang@pop.uky.edu.
If you have a previous version of KENPAVE, the removal of it before
the installation of this revised version is not necessary but is recommended.
To remove the software from the computer, click Start, point to Settings,
and click Control Panel. Then double click Add/Remove Programs icon and a
list box for all the installed programs will be shown. You will find KENPAVE
there. After clicking it and then the Add\Remove button, all the previously
installed programs including .EXE files and .DAT files will be deleted, while
all other files you created will remain. If there are more than one KENPAVE
because you didn't delete them last time, you can delete them all from the
list.
This attachment contains five files. You should read this INSTRUCT.DOC
file first because it tells you how to install KENPAVE on your computer.
After click SetupKenPave.zip, the software can be installed automatically by
double clicking SETUP.EXE. All you have to do now is to follow the
instruction on the screen until the message "KENPAVE setup was completed
successfully" appears. Note that SETUP.TXT is a backup for SETUP.EXE. If
SETUP.EXE was deleted by your email virus protection system and could not be
found, you should rename SETUP.TXT to SETUP.EXE and double click it for
installation.
The only option you may have to make during installation is where to
store the KENPAVE software. It is recommended that the default directory
C:\KENPAVE be used. However, you can use any directory, whether an existing
directory or a new directory to be created, by overriding the default.
You can now run KENPAVE by clicking the Start button, then pointing to
Programs and KENPAVE, and finally clicking KENPAVE. If an error message that
a certain file is missing or the program cannot run, please inform Dr. Huang
about the problem. If KENPAVE works and you want to run an old file in a
different directory, you can type in the name of the directory in the Data
Path box. As soon as you type in the last \, all the data files in that
directory will be shown in the drop-down list box.
You can install KENPAVE on any computers in your University or let the
students copy and use it on their own PC's at home. Note that the unit weight
in the old DOS programs is in pci (lb per cubic in.), while the new Windows
version is in pcf (lb per cubic ft). To convert a data file prepared by the
DOS version to the Windows version, simply run KENPAVE by opening the file
using LAYERINP or SLABSINP and then saving it so the unit weight in pci will
be changed automatically to pcf together with some other format changes. The
old data cannot be used directly to run KENPAVE.
