Rivertowne Community Animator Job Description

Overview of the Community Animator Role

Community Animation is a paid program within the Rivertowne Revitalization


team at Toronto Community Housing. The community animator works with the
Revitalization team to make connections with individuals and groups in
Rivertowne and support programs and initiatives that lead to resident
engagement, resident leadership, and neighborhood integration and social
cohesion.

Community Animators are supported in their outreach and engagement duties


through ongoing training and guidance from staff. Community Animators are
required to perform the following engagement roles: door-to-door outreach, lobby
and street intercepts, surveying, supporting focus groups and individual
interviews. The work will involve going to the homes of residents, or to places
where people gather, like programs, schools, places of worship, etc. Additionally,
animators are required to organize and support meetings. Community Animators
will lead meetings, take meeting notes, and provide written summaries of
meeting content to the staff team.

Activities:

Participate in training sessions and meetings as required


Assist with organizing meetings, workshops and events to engage the
community
Write accurate summaries of discussions
Conduct outreach to inform residents of community meetings, workshops,
opportunities and events
Highlight any issues to the staff team
Support programs and initiatives happening in Rivertowne through
administrative or operational assistance

Hours of Work and Compensation

Hours of work are flexible and will be decided in consultation with the staff team.
Community Animators are paid hourly, with the total number of hours worked
decided by staff.

Animators are paid for satisfactory completion of the agreed work and are
compensated for training and other program related meetings. The hourly rate for
Rivertowne Community Animators is $15.
Relevant Skills and Experience:

A current resident of Rivertowne; if not, then a former resident or active in the


community as staff/volunteer
Experience participating in or ideally facilitating/leading community meetings
Ability to work as facilitator, eliciting input without imposing your perspective
Familiarity with Rivertowne and specific interest or experience working with
children, youth, and seniors
Ability to engage with residents from multiple access points (social networks,
faith communities, community groups and organizations)
Ability to identify and address barriers to resident participation

Key Assets:

Flexible availability during period of community engagement


Competence in second language, both written and spoken
Proven teamwork capabilities
Willingness to support ongoing or short term programs and initiatives

Training and Support

Animators are provided with training in outreach methods and community


facilitation, and work closely with staff.

Reporting

All animators are part of a project team that meets regularly to review progress
and to make plans. Staff will lead those meetings and provide support to the
animators throughout the program.

Confidentiality and Conflict of Interest

Community Animators are expected to maintain the highest standards of


confidentiality, and are asked to sign a confidentiality statement. They are also
expected to sign a statement agreeing to avoid any potential conflict of interest.
