Task Title: Letter /p/ Reflection

Letter /p/ Reflection

The lesson is a give and take of information in which both parties gain new knowledge. I

was addressing average standards during this lesson, just the general standards. This

lesson is for the KG2-2 students, and took place in their classroom on the circle center

mat. The goal I wanted to achieve during this lesson was, that students would have a

better understanding of the sound /p/ and recognize it in a print rich environment. The

students got excited when they saw the powerpoint slide, they were discussing their love

for the pirate in the image and popcorn. I think the students responded the way they did

because they enjoy familiarity and seeing something they recognize gets them

remembering parts in their daily lives that they want to discuss. I related to the students

prior understanding by having pictures of the words I was teaching them, this had them

connect the words to an image making it easier to remember. The students were very

engaged and kept discussing and singing along with me to the song of sounds /p/ part.

In the students perspective I feel that they really connected words to pictures and their

understanding of the sound and topic grew by as minutes went by. The lesson met my

teaching goals as I had good classroom management by keeping all my students engaged

and involved in the lesson without any distractions and off topic discussions. However, I

might enhance the students learning of this lesson in the future by showing them videos

or asking them to act out a specific sound or motion such as How do you think a

popping popcorn looks like?. My implications for my professional practice would be

using engagement and classroom management rules in my favor to achieve a successful

lesson.
