Big or Small/ Shapes/ Colours Revision Reflection

A lesson is introducing a new or already known topic to a group or people, followed of an

explanation and an implementation of this new knowledge. It works in multiple ways, but for

this lesson as I am addressing average preschool standards, I had a very simple revision lesson.

This lesson is for the KG2-2 students, aged 4-6, and takes place in their classroom on the circle

centre mat. The goal I was trying to achieve by the end of this lesson was, all students will be

able to recognize the general 5 shapes and main colours, but also while being able to recognize

what is big and what is small. The students seemed to remember the past lessons Ive given

them and answered the questions I gave them easily. I think they responded this way as I tend

to try and memorize with them everyday throughout the day asking them at random times to

identify a shape, colour, or even size outside the classroom. The teaching related to the

students prior understanding of the shapes and colours everywhere, as they were now familiar

with the topic and me revising all the information I taught them previously was as the metaphor

states just a walk in the park. I engaged the students quite well this lesson, they started

answering easily and would even point out the shapes around the classroom. From the

students perspective the lesson was very active and they felt free to have their eyes explore

and scan the classroom for shapes to point out, they were especially enthusiastic when they

found a new shape their peers havent found yet. My lesson met my teaching goals as I had

good time management and all the students understood the lesson in the time I expected them

to, which felt like an achievement. I however might enhance the students learning of this

lesson in the future by playing a find the shape game where I scatter colourful shapes around

the classroom, and each group is assigned a shape to collect and they have to tell me what

colour is their shape. My implications for my professional practice is my engagement of the

lesson and ability to involve my students in the lesson.
