This is a book that discusses The Golden Rule which is the idea of treating others

the way tgat you want to be treated.

This book discusses the use of timelines and how they can be used and also shows

some examples as well.

This is a fabulous book that may resonate with the way that many of the students

feel prior to their first day of school: Nervous and afraid.

Mayer, M. (1988). I just forgot. New York City, NY: Golden Press Publishing.

This is a book that tells a story of a friendly character who fails to remember his

responsibilities and then in-turn finds out what happens if he cannot take care of his

responsibilities.

Parr, T. (2003). The family book. New York City, NY: Little Brown and Company.

This is a book that discusses the various members of a family and the roles that each member has.

Shannon, D. (1999). David goes to school. New York City, NY: Scholastic Inc.
In this book, it tells the story of David and how he was always told no by his

teachers because he showed bad behavior.

Kanefield, T. (2014). The girl from the tar paper school. New York City, NY: Harry N. Abrams.

This is a nonfiction story of the young girl named Barbara Johns and the role that

she played during the civil rights movement. This book discusses the responsibilities

that she had once she led the first public protest which jumpstarted the Civil Rights

Movement.

Matthews, J. (2014). Children growing up with war. Somerville, MA: Candlewick Press.

This is a book that tells the compelling story of children growing up during a time of

war and the challenges that they had to face and how they were able to overcome

them.

Sterra, J. (n.d.). E-I-E-E-O! How Old Macdonald got his farm with the help from a hen.

This is a book that students can use it as a resource to discuss the responsibilities

that this farmer had in maintaining his farm. This book is a fun take on the story

The Little Red Hen.

Yang, G. L. (2013). Boxers and saints. New York City, NY: First Second Books.
This is an exceptionally brilliant graphic novel that was a part of the 2014 NCSS

Outstanding Trade Book Awards. This book discusses several individuals past

memories during the Boxer Rebellion.
