Accounting Program Requirements (KPU): The prerequisites needed to get into the program
you will need a High school diploma and one of the following courses: English 12, English 12
First Peoples, English Literature 12, Communications 12, IB English A1 (HL) 12A -or- IB
English A1 (SL) 12 with a minimum grade of 64% in one of the English classes and 85% in
Communications 12.
Accounting Program Description: The Certificate program includes an intense concentration
of introductory and intermediate courses in financial and management accounting, one course in
math, one course in finance, and two courses in tax.

Important Skills:
1. Analytical skills. Accountants must be able to identify issues in documentation and
suggest solutions. For example, public accountants use analytical skills in their work to
minimize tax liability.
2. Communication skills. Accountants must be able to listen carefully to facts and concerns
from clients, managers, and others. They must also be able to discuss the results of their
work in both meetings and written reports.
3. Detail oriented. Accountants must pay attention to detail when compiling and examining
documentation.
4. Math skills. Accountants must be able to analyze, compare, and interpret facts and
figures, although complex math skills are not necessary.
5. Organizational skills. Strong organizational skills are important for accountants because
they often work with a range of financial documents for a variety of clients.
