4: Assembly and ground testing of airborne systems

Aim: To do assembling of airborne systems on ground and testing the functions of a system.

Equipment Required: Transmitter, Receiver, Flight control Board (Flight Control Computer),
Battery, Electronic Speed Controller, Motor, Servos, etc.

Theory:

Receiver
The receiver is a device used to receive the signal from ground. It operates in different
frequencies.

Flight Control Computer

The flight computer is a centralized unit used to control the aircraft performance based on the
commands received from ground and also needed for the continuous operation of aircraft.

Battery
Batteries Are the Main Power Source for UAVs and it is Important to Understand the Options. The vast
majority of UAVs for public and civil use will be powered by advanced battery technologies. The
current rating of a battery refers the total energy available from the battery at its rated voltage.
Batteries are composed of a series of cells from one to several and may be series or parallel
connected.
Electronic Speed Controller
An electronic speed control or ESC is an electronic circuit with the purpose to vary an electric
motor's speed, its direction and possibly also to act as a dynamic brake. ESCs are often used on
electrically powered radio controlled models, with the variety most often used for brushless
motors essentially providing an electronically generated three-phase electric power low voltage
source of energy for the motor.

Servos
A servomotor is a rotary actuator or linear actuator that allows for precise control of angular or
linear position, velocity and acceleration. It consists of a suitable motor coupled to a sensor for
position feedback. It also requires a relatively sophisticated controller, often a dedicated module
designed specifically for use with servomotors.

Procedure:

1. Choose the equipments based on design

2. Mark the design on board
3. Connect the components prescribed in diagram
4. Ensure the connectivity before giving power
5. Check the operations of components for our requirements

Result:

Thus the assembling of airborne systems on ground and testing the functions of a system has
been done.
