C. TOK IZVOENJA NASTAVE ASA

Introduction

In the beginning of the lesson, the teacher will show to the students the photo from the book
(New Opportunities, Pre-Intermediate level, page 90) and ask them to discuss the photo. He/she
will help them with some questions like: What do you see at the photo, How does the woman
look like, What do you think what she had reached, What is behind her, Have you ever use the
yacht, How was it? Etc.
Analyzing the photo they should answer some questions from the book by guessing them. So,
the questions are: Would you like to go to sailing?
Where would you like to sail to?
Which things do you think the yachtswoman in the photo has done?
There are some possible answers: won a race, sailed round the world, become a famous,
received an award, come close to death, been on her own for a long time
The answers are individually so the teacher will accept all of answers and not correct them.

Main Part

As they are already introduced in the topic the next task for them is to read the article named
People think Im Weirdo, so now they can find a real answers and check their ones. While
they read the text the teacher will listen to them carefully and if there is something unclear,
explain to them. When they finish they will read correct answers randomly one by one. So, as
they finish they will move to the next exercise, exercise number 3that ingredient 6 questions
about the text. They will answer them and expected answers are:
1. Ellen MacArthur become the famous because she sailed round the world.
2. No, she hasnt
3. She is proud on her parents and her team.
4. Because she likes to being on her own.
5. Because she got something unusual.
6. She is doing what she always wanted.
The questions are mentioned at exercise 3, page 90.
At the end of exercise they will read the answers and the teacher will check it with
other students. While they are answering these questions the teacher will prepare
examples for the next one, so as they finish with reading and checking answers they
can move to the exercise 4. The teacher will write those examples (three sentences
from the text) on the board.
EX1: For the last few weeks she has been the center of attention again.
EX2: She has dreamt of the sea since then.
EX3: Ive always loved the sea.

Looking at these examples the students have to guess the rule for using FOR and
SINCE. And the rule is We use FOR for a period of time, eg 6 weeks.
We use SINCE for a point in time , eg.1998.
They will write down this rule it their notebooks.
The next exercise is exercise number 5 where the students are supposed to match
examples of Present Perfect from the article (1-3) and uses of the Present Perfect (a-c).
Expected answers are: 1 c
2-a
3 b. The full sentences could be found at the book, page 91.
If there is need for more explanations the teacher will make it clear with students, so
he/she will see whether they need or not.
The next exercise, exercise number 6 contains the dialogue of Helen and Colin on the phone.
In the dialogue there are some verbs in the brackets that should be put in Present Perfect, so the
dialogue will be completed (same book, page 91). Here I will mention only verbs and their
correct shape as only correct answer:
1. I (be).I have been.
2. You (be)You have been
3. Mick (have)Mick has had.
4. I (know).I have known..
5. You (see)?...Have you seen.?
6. They (go)They have gone.
7. We (have)...We have had.
8. I (see).I have seen
They will work around 7 minutes alone while the teacher will walk around them to see if
they have problems with this tense, and after this they will read one by one for the rest of
the class. If there is incorrect answer the teacher will call another one to read the correct
one.
For exercise 7 they should use exercises 5 and 6 to complete it. So, they should match
examples from 6 exercise with its uses (a -c) from exercise 6.
Here I will shortly mention correct answers but full version could be found at the book (New
Opportunity, pre-intermediate level, page 91).
1a 5a
2b 6a
3a 7c
4c 8a
Finishing this they will read the answers and explain why they match the option they
did so they will practise usage of Present Perfect through it.

At the exercise 8 they will complete the text with SINCE and FOR. Expected answer
will look like this: since, for, for, since, since, for. This is order of correct answers but
full exercise can be found at the same book same page as I have mentioned before.
While they are completing the exercise the teacher will monitor them and if they need
some more explanations about using SINCE and FOR he/she will help them.

Moving to the exercise 9 the students will write some true sentences about using already
given verbs: be, enjoy, hate, have, know, like, live, putting them in the Present Simple
Tense. After finishing this they will continue to work but in pairs, so they can read their
sentences to each other and then ask questions about each of sentences using HOW
LONG? By answering those questions they are supposed to use SINCE and FOR.
Conclusion
The teacher will use the exercise 10 as conclusion to see what they have got from all of this
matter. So, task for them will be to write down some ideas about a holiday they have imagined
they are on. As the help there are some questions they should answer: how long? weather be
like? meet people? see anything interesting? learn anything? visit any place? eat interesting
food? do/see anything interesting?
While they are doping this the teacher is walking around them and helping them to answer as
more as possible answers and make a sense of the description. As they finish this part they will
work in groups and make conversation about their holiday by asking questions each other about
it. There is the short example how that should look like:
A: How long have you been there?
B: weve only been here for three days but Im really enjoying myself.

The teacher will also assess some students.
