Gifted students often get left behind in the way of support because they are excelling in
class and not falling behind. This doesnt mean they dont need support though.
It is important to understand how gifted students may feel in the classroom, and have
the tools necessary for helping them to excel at their level in your classroom.

I havent personally worked with gifted and talented students but I have had many classes
where we learned more about them and how they might feel in the classroom. I think it is
important for a future teacher or parent know more about children who may be labeled as
gifted and talented because they have unique areas where they might struggle that are
different from those we see with typically behind students. Just because they are succeeding
and excelling in the academic areas of school doesnt mean they dont need help in other areas.
It is also important to know because they might not be getting enough challenging work in your
class because they are so far ahead. I think this all goes back to differentiation in the classroom,
and how important it is to have a knowledge of your students so that you can best help them.
