Dear Mom,

This book is your itinerary, guide, and travel

journal. We have gone to great lengths to
investigate and plan this adventure of a lifetime,
and we absolutely cannot wait to give it all to
you.

And yeah, I guess we totally lied when we said

we weren't giving you anything big for
Christmas. But technically this is a birthday/
Christmas COMBO gift, so it wasn't a blatant
lie....more of a withholding of certain truths!

We are gonna keep writing your life's story,

together.

We love you!

Before The Trip...
Money

Your gift is the trip in its entirety. Everything is already paid for. That means
transportation (plane, rental car) is paid for. Food - from true Scottish whisky to
seafood straight from the ocean to your plate - is covered. Accomodation and
lodging is - you guessed it - paid for. Tickets and entry to places we will be visiting
is covered. We have been saving for years in order to be able to give you this
experience with as little cost to you as possible. The only financial consideration
you will need to take is souveniers or other similar purchases. So enjoy that extra
glass of local wine. Eat the dessert. You deserve it.

Home and Dogs

We considered this to be one of your greatest areas of concern, and for good
reason - going away for 2 weeks? We know you have a hard enough time leaving
them for one day! Well, don't you worry your pretty head about it. We have the
best team possible assembled to housesit AND watch the brittanys - headed by
none other than Pat and Cindi - and the Lorinis are excited to watch The
Poodles while we are gone. This way the brittanys will be comfortable at home,
the house will be watched, the poodles are going to be spoiled rotten, and YOU
can fully relax knowing that everything is taken care of back in the USA!

Work

"I can't possibly take all that time off of work!" you might cry. Well, that concern is
completely unwarranted, since you already have the 2 weeks in August for the
trip marked for CLT.

...Yeah, you've HAD the time off work for quite a while now. Jenn and Andrea
know about the trip and not only have the time marked off and know not to plan
for time off themselves during that period, but are incredibly excited for you!
Pretty much everyone in your office knows, by the way. They're all ecstatic for
you and are ready to take the reins and do whatever needs to be done while
you're away. Better get Andrea her payroll sign-in set up!

Day 1
Wed. August 15th, 2018
Over The Sea
We are flying out of Stewart International Airport at 9:25PM.
This airport is an hour and a half from Albany - just south of
Poughkeepsie - and far away from the city, so no obnoxious
New York City-ness! Can you believe a little unknown airport
like this has nonstop flights to Edinburgh? Neither did we, but
dang does it work out in our favor! Allie and Igor are flying
into Albany the night before, and will be arriving around
midnight. That way we can all travel to Stewart International
together - and together onward to Scotland!

We should arrive about 3 hours before our scheduled

departure time since it is an international flight. That means
the morning will be free for last minute luggage checks, doggo
snuggles, and general merriment. We are flying with
Norwegian airlines! With an overnight flight, you get to sleep
on the plane and wake up in a new country on the other side of
the world!!

I'm Coo, the baby Highland

Cow! I'm here to offer extra
snippets of fun info for your trip!

summer!! Don't overthink it! Its hard to believe, but
our flight to Scotland isn't much longer
Set your phone's clock to the than a flight to Allie and Igors, and it's

Stretch! We certainly plan to sleep away the flight, but if you're awake you should
be stretching - either by walking up and down the plane or doing stretches in your
seat - at least every hour. Remember Lindsey's neck baseline incident (why does
Lindsey suck at travel?)

Day 2
Thursday 16th
A New Beginning
We arrive at Edinburgh Airport at approximately 9:25am. First order of business -
pick up luggage and then get our rental car! This car (Volvo XC90 or similar!) will
not only be taking us all around the country, but will provide a space for us to store
extra luggage, food, and other miscellaneous supplies as we may not be staying at
the same hotel (or even at the same end of the country!!!) two nights in a row!

Welcome to Scotland!

Our first day will be spend in Edinburgh! We start out grabbing lunch, then touring
Edinburgh Castle. For hundreds of years the castle withstood sieges and wars, hosted
kings and queens, and witnessed more history than many countries hold themselves.

Within Edinburgh Castle lies the National

War Museum. Discover uniforms, insignia
and equipment, medals, decorations,
weapons, paintings, ceramics and
silverware, all of which throw light on
Scotland's military history, from world-
changing events to the everyday life of
Scottish servicemen.

In the evening, on the promenade of the castle, we will be attending the world-
famous Edinburgh Military Tattoo. The Tattoo an annual series of military tattoos
(ceremonial form of evening entertainment) performed by British Armed Forces,
Commonwealth and international military bands, and artistic performance teams.

Outlander Tour Day 1 Highlights
Get as close as possible to the 16th century in the well preserved town of Culross. Or
as its known to Outlander fans, Cranesmuir!

Visit beautiful Falkland and explore the setting for 1940s Inverness in Outlander!

Learn how Highlanders lived at the Newtonmore Highland Folk Museum!

Tour Info

You leave Edinburgh and begin following the trail of the best-known film locations
featured in the Outlander TV Series.

Heading north, your first stop is the charming village of Culross. In Outlander Culross
posed as the fictional village of Cranesmuir and the home of Geillis Duncan and her
ill-fated husband, Arthur. Exploring the towns cobbled streets is like taking a step
back in time. Look carefully and you may even find Claires herb garden behind the
impressive, historic Culross Palace.

We continue to the small town of Falkland to relive the first scenes of the show,
where Falkland substitutes for 1940s Inverness. See if you can recognize the familiar
sights such as Mrs. Bairds Guesthouses (The Covenanter Hotel) and the Bruce
Fountain, where Claire sees the ghost of Jamie.

In the early afternoon we stop at the Newtonmore Highland Folk Museum, which
houses replicas of 18th century turf-roofed Highland crofts. These were used as a
setting in the first episode of the show.

Venturing further north we pass Aviemore, where you may recognise the stunning
hilly and wooded area of Tulloch Ghru. This appeared during the journey Claire takes
with Jamie and the Highlanders from Craigh na Dun to Castle Leoch. We arrive in

Outlander Tour Day 2/4
Outlander Tour Day 2 Highlights

Stare in awe at Scotlands most beautiful glen, at Glen Affric.

Explore the tragic Culloden battlefield.

Your day starts by visiting the majestic Glen Affric. Lochs, mountains
and pine forests: this is one of Scotlands most glorious glens. Its also
an ideal spot for our Jamie to hide!

In the afternoon we visit Culloden, which plays an important role in

Scottish history and the Outlander books. Its at the Culloden
Battlefield where Claire and Jamie said their tearful goodbyes, before
Jamie joined the Jacobite army to fight for the Stuarts. You have the
opportunity to explore the visitor centre and site, and pay tribute to
those who lost their lives at the last battle fought on British soil.

You then take a short drive to the ancient standing stones at Clava
Cairns, which could have given the inspiration for Craigh na Dun. We
return back to Inverness with time to explore the town and enjoy the
city for another evening.

Day 5
Sunday 19th
Outlander Tour Day 3/4
Outlander Tour Day 3 Highlights
Delve into Highland clan history at Castle Leod.

Taste Scotlands national drink, at an optional distillery visit.

A short drive this morning takes you to Beauly, the site of Beauly
Priory and the tomb of Lord Lovat in the heart of Clan Fraser lands.
Beauly priory is a beautiful 13th century ruin and, according to Diana
Gabaldons book, is where the Lovat Frasers are buried.

From here we continue to Castle Leod, home of the Clan MacKenzie,

where you can enjoy a relaxing walk while your guide tells you some
of the history of the clan and castle. The Castle has a striking
resemblance to how Diana Gabaldon described Castle Leoch, however
she had never heard of the castle prior to writing Outlander.

In the afternoon, you have the opportunity to sample The Water of

Life with a whisky distillery tour and tasting. There might even be
time to look out for the Waterhorse at Loch Garve!

You then continue along the entire length of Loch Ness before
arriving in Fort William for our overnight stop.

You might recognize the Jacobite Steam Train that runs

between Mallaig and Fort William. It's the real-life Hogwarts

Feel true Scottish pride at the gorgeous Glenfinnan Monument.

commemorates the beginning of the last Jacobite rising. It stands framed
by typically spectacular Highland scenery at the head of Loch Shiel.

We continue through magnificent Glencoe and cross the rugged

Trossachs area and onto Doune Castle. The Castle is an extensive ruin
that represents Castle Leoch in the TV programme, home to Colum
MacKenzie and his clan in the 18th century episodes.

We return to Edinburgh later that afternoon with a photo stop at

Blackness Castle on the banks of the Firth of Forth.
This marks the end of this tour!

Time to head out and hit the road on our own! Today is mainly a travel day with a
few key stops. Our first stop - Lallybroch! Well, sort of. Midhope Castle is the

unfortunately derelict and unsafe, but the estate is easily accessible and open to

After a short drive we arrive at The Kelpies, the largest equine sculptures in the
world. "The Kelpies are a feat of engineering, each made with 300 tonnes of
structural steel, and are a monumental tribute to the horse power heritage
that was vital to the early industries of central Scotland."

A short distance away lies another feat of engineering, The Falkirk Wheel. A
rotating boat lift, The Falkirk Wheel is the only rotating boat lift of its kind in the
world, raising boats nearly 80 feet in the air from the Forth and Clyde Clyde
Canal below to the Union Canal above.

A bit north is Stirling Castle. One of the largest and most important castles in
Scotland, both historically and architecturally, the castle offers tours ranging
from 1 to several hours or self-exploration.

She Sailed On A Day

The town of Oban derives its name from the Gaelic language
meaning 'little bay', and is known as both the Gateway to the Isles and
the seafood capital of Scotland. Sounds like it's time to get our sea
legs!

You've always dreamed of owning a boat. Well, we bought you one!

....sort of.
For a few hours, at least.

Today will be spent out on the water on the MV Creagallan on a

private wildlife tour. Our journey will take us out from Oban down
the west side of Kerrera Island and over the sea to the mouth of Loch
Spelvie. We then travel along the eastern coast of the Isle of Mull
underneath the grand sea cliffs and to the mouth of Loch Buie. We
then loop back across the Firth of Lorne to Easdale Island and Seil
Island, and back up Kerrera Sound to return to Oban.

Common wildlife sights along the way include seals, porpoise,

dolphins, sea eagles and assorted sea birds, deer, and goats.

skipper/owner has extensive knowledge of the
west coast waters and over 20 years experience in

Our tour is scheduled for 'half day' (departure times and return times
are still TBD) but it's our only scheduled activity for today. The tour
includes commentary and stories from our skipper as well as hot drinks
and snacks on board. Plus, it's a private tour, so it's just us and the
skipper! No plebians who DON'T own a boat on YOUR wildlife boat tour!

In Scottish Folklore, Selkies are mythological creatures

said to live as seals in the sea but shed their skin to become
human on land. Male Selkies are described as being very
handsome in their human form, have great seductive powers
over human women, and typically seek those who are
dissatisfied with their everyday lives. Watch out!

Day 9
Thursday 23nd
Gathering & Games
"The Games start with the arrival on the field of the Stewards March. At around
9.00am in the morning, the worlds finest competing pipers start to assemble in
Obans town centre. By 10.00am, they have formed a band. Until this moment, they
have never played together, and after today, they will never play together again. As
the drum rolls sound, you too, are welcome to become part of this main attraction.
Simply take your place amongst Chiefs, Chieftains, Stewards, clansmen, townsfolk
and visitors for the Stewards March, and led by the Pipe Major, (the current holder
of the Highland Society of Londons gold medal), you will be piped triumphantly all
the way to the Games Field..."

One of Scotlands premier Highland Games, The Argyllshire Gathering, is held every
4th Thursday in August. How convenient that we just so happen to be in town!
World class challengers from across the globe flock to Oban to do battle; whether it
be heavyweight athletes with caber, stone or hammer throws, lighter athletes on the
track, field and hill, or pipers and performers keeping the ancient traditions of
Scotland alive through music and dance. There are also vendors and exhibitors (and
there might just be Highland Cattle on display!)

What's 'tossing a caber'? A competitor must raise a tree trunk

weighing up to 130lbs to a vertical position, and run to build up
momentum while balancing it. At the perfect moment, he must
throw the trunk in such a way that the larger end hits the ground
with the smaller end making a semi-circle in the air. All done while
wearing a kilt, of course!

Proof Copy: Not optimized for high quality printing or digital distribution
Admission: Adults 10, Concession 8.

"The first Argyllshire Gathering took place in 1871, a social occasion, to bring together kindred spirits
from across one of Scotlands largest, isolated and most beautiful tracts of land. Little has changed over
the years, other than the international dimension the event now attracts. Many thousands of people
from all over the world have experienced this dichotomy of fierce competition in a friendly
atmosphere. The Argyllshire Gathering remains committed to keeping its heritage alive, bringing you
all the traditional events unique to these occasions."

Lunch: To be found at the Games!

"From the basic burger to the luxury of lobster, theres food to satisfy all tastes at the Oban Games,
much of it locally sourced. Many people take a picnic, and whatever the weather, theres always an
orderly queue forming at all the ice cream vans parked on site."

Dinner: Cuan Mor

"We pride ourselves on the ambience we have created in the restaurant/bar, with its natural materials
and stunning view over Oban Bay. However the ambience wouldnt be enough without good home-
cooked food, which is what we serve at Cuan Mor all through the day. Portions are good, food is fresh
and delicious and there is a wide choice to suit all tastes and budgets.
We boast a range of whisky from the smokiest to the peatiest, our collection being one of the largest in
the west coast featuring approx 100 single malt and special blends. Many of our whiskies are unique
and fairly rare; we work with one of Scotlands finest whisky suppliers to achieve this. "

Day 10-11th
Fri-Sat 24th-25th
Over the Sea to Skye
The drive up to our first destination on the Isle of Skye from our Guesthouse in
Oban is about 4 hours. Something tells me the scenery of the Scottish Highlands
won't be too burdensome to witness during the drive!

Our first stop on the Isle is the legendary Fairy Pools in the south. It's a short, easy
hike to the pristine pools that have become synonymous with the Isle of Skye.
These famous pools entice visitors from all over the world, as they make some
great Wild Swimming for those brave enough to enter the cold water.
Considered one of the most magical places in Scotland, the crystal clear pools and
waterfalls with their vivid blue and green hues are a must-see for anyone on Skye.
After swimming with the fairys, we head out to the western side of Skye to visit
Neist Point Lighthouse. Found on the most westerly tip of Skye near the township
of Glendale, both the walk up the path and the Lighthouse itself are iconic, offering
some of the most breathtaking views Skye has to offer.

Maybe if you look hard enough out to the

sea, you can see our house!

(Probably not, though. It's pretty far away.)

We then head into Portree for dinner,

and then up to our guesthouse - on the
northern banks of Skye.

Our second day on Skye will be spent exploring the northern end of the island's many
natural wonders.

We start out by heading south along the western edge of Skye's northern penninsula
towards Portree. We stop and visit Fairy Glen - a curious little grassy knoll, the road
winds around small round-topped grassy hills with lochans (ponds) in between which
gives the glen an otherworldly feel.

We arrive in Portree for lunch before heading north and visiting the famous Old Man
of Storr - The Old Man is a large pinnacle of rock that stands high and can be seen
for miles around. As part of the Trotternish ridge the Storr was created by a massive
ancient landside, leaving one of the most photographed landscapes in the world.

We make a brief stop at Kilt Rock, a sea cliff in north east Trotternish. It is said to
resemble a kilt, with vertical basalt columns to form the pleats and intruded sills of
dolerite forming the pattern.

A bit further north lies the Quiriang - The Quiraing is a landslip on the northernmost
summit of the Trotternish on the Isle of Skye. The whole of the Trotternish Ridge
escarpment was formed by a great series of landslips; the Quiraing is the only part of
the slip still movingthe road at its base, near Flodigarry, requires repairs each year!
The hiking along the paths is said to be relatively simple, and you can easily reach
amazing heights - and see amazing views!

We then head back south into Portree once again; its been a busy day of natural
beauty, which calls for a fancy dinner, shopping, and recuperation at our guest house.

Day 2 (25th)

Lunch: Isle of Skye Baking Company

oatcake wedges, and more. Our signature breads are
made ready to eat anywhere, anytime. Our lunchbreads
are made by wrapping soft bread dough around a filling,
which are then baked and served warm with the option of butter or a portion of one of
our homemade chutneys. Scottish cheese board or Highland platters - choose from our
cheese selection, or try our venison charcuterie, served with plenty or bread, oatcakes,
lavosh jaggies, butter, chutney, jelly, fresh fruit and dressed mixed leaves.

Dinner: Scorrybreac

Scorrybreac restaurant is set in a beautiful location, above the harbour in Portree, Isle
of Skye. Chef Calum Munro aims to seek the finest local, seasonal produce, delivering
modern Scottish cuisine, with French influences. Skye's fascinating, rugged landscape
supplies the restaurant with a variety of irresistible products, including local wild
venison, oysters from The Oyster Shed, freshly caught seafood from Just Hooked and
locally grown Glendale salad leaves, to name just a few of the highlights.

Lodging: Bualie nan Carn (2 nights)

Legend has it that Old Man of Storr was

a giant who lived in Skye. When he died,
he was buried with his fingers sticking
out, creating the ridges!

Day 12-13
Sun-Mon 26-27th
Orkney Islands
Today we step back in time on the Orkney Islands, an archipelago on the northern end of
Scotland. Some of its Neolithic villages, tombs, and monuments date back nearly 10,000
years. Thats quite a bit further back in time than Claire traveled! It's about a 5 hour drive
from our guest house on Skye to our port, so off we go once again (you can sleep when we
are back in the US!) We arrive at Gills Bay and Pentland Ferries at 1:00pm, in time for
the 1:30pm ferry crossing. The crossing takes approximately one hour.
The coolest part about this ferry service? It ferries cars as well as people, meaning our
good ol' reliable rental car gets to travel with us across the sea! We dock at St. Margaret's
Hope at approximately 2:30pm.

Upon arriving on Orkney, we head north to Highland Park Whisky Distillery for their
Viking Soul Tour - because what's Scotland without whisky?

What better follow-up to a distillery tour than a trip to church? We take a stroll up to St.
Magnus Cathedral. Known as the 'Light in the North', the Cathedral was founded in 1137
by the Viking, Earl Rognvald, in honour of his uncle St Magnus. Today the maintenance of
the Cathedral has been assigned to skilled masons who ensure that, wherever possible,
the original stonework is retained. Thanks to their skill and the devotion of countless
others who look after this magnificent building on a day-to-day basis, St. Magnus
Cathedral remains a lasting testament to the glory of God.

We then stop in for dinner before taking a small detour up to the Orkney Cheese
Company (because cheese) and then back to our guest house north of St. Margaret's
Hope.

With little light pollution and clear nights,
they say Orkney is one of the best places in
Scotland to see the Northern Lights dancing
in the night sky...

Highland Park Whisky Distillery - Viking Soul Tour

A great introduction to Highland Park! Youll start with a short film about Orkney, Highland
Park and our Viking roots, followed by a tour of our working distillery and finishing with a
tasting of two selected drams of Highland Park 12 Year Old VIKING HONOUR and another of
our HERO whiskies. Youll also receive a voucher for 2.00, which you can redeem against a
70cl bottle of whisky in our shop. Tours run every hour, on the hour, from 10.00am to 4.00pm,
Monday to Saturday and from 12noon to 4pm on Sundays (May to September). Allow 1 hour
10.00 per person.

Orkney Cheese Company - Our multi-award winning Orkney Cheddar, revered by top chefs
and cheese lovers alike, owes its very special taste to our unique Island surroundings.
We use fresh milk from cattle that graze on Orkney's low undulating farmland; a farmland
that has sustained Island farming for over 5000 years due to its deep fertile topsoil. The lush
pasture is borne out of our temperate climate, thanks to the proximity of the Gulf Stream, and
the long days of northern sunlight in mid-summer.

Lunch: The Cabin at John O' Groats (takeaway on our way to Pentland Ferries)

The furthest north takeaway on the mainland. Overlooking the harbour at John OGroats
The Cabin (AKA Geoffs Burger Van) sells freshly cooked hot take-away food. From Fish
and Chips, Bacon Rolls, Burgers and much more including a variety of hot and cold drinks.

Dinner: Lucano

Lucano is a fully licensed Italian restaurant, caf, and pizzeria located in Kirkwall, the
heart of the Orkney Islands. Lucania was an ancient district of southern Italy. The region is
renowned for its earthy and honest food that speaks of the areas rural traditions. We are
proud to continue these traditions and welcome you to share and celebrate a fusion of
Italian rural cuisine and the finest ingredients.

Our first stop on our second day in Orkney is Skara Brae. Skara Brae is a prehistoric
village that was in use between roughly 3100 and 2500 BC. After it was abandoned, it was
covered with sand dunes and wasnt discovered until A.D. 1850, when a ferocious storm
blew part of the turf off the ruins. Walk around an ancient village the best-preserved
group of prehistoric houses in all of Western Europe.

We then head south to Yesnaby, a vista point where you can witness the mighty, boiling
Atlantic ocean face off against the timeless solidity of Scotland's seaside cliffs.
Then we head east to a strip of land full of ancient
history - starting with the Ring of Brodgar. Walk
among the enigmatic stones of one of the most
spectacular prehistoric monuments in
the British Isles. The Ring of Brodgar Stone Circle
and Henge is an enormous ceremonial site dating
back to the 3rd millennium BC. The stone ring was
built in a true circle, 104 metres wide and
originally contained sixty megaliths; today only
twenty-seven of these stones remain. Don't touch
any of 'em!

Several smaller stops line this corridor, including

the Standing Stones of Stenness and a Neolithic
Barnhouse Settlement.
We finish our loop around Orkney's Mainland with a guided tour of the ancient
Maeshowe. There are many chambered cairns on Orkney, but Maeshowe is by far the
largest, built some 5,000 years ago. Incredibly, Viking crusaders broke into the cairn in
the 12th century and carved graffiti runes on the walls of the main chamber.

Maeshowe was built around 5,000 BC using massive stone slabs,

several tons in weight, that Geologists have identified as being
sourced from sites at least 6 miles away! Not only that, but the
entrance passage to Maeshowe is aligned with the setting of the
midwinter sun, so that the light illuminates the tombs interior. Good
architects are so hard to find these days!

Maeshowe: Tours run from Maeshowe Visitor Centre

Guided Tours only which depart on the hour starting at 10am. In July and August
there are extra late tours up until 8pm. Adult 6.00, Senior 4.80
From the visitor centre, you cross a main road and then follow a short path to the
cairn. The entrance to the cairn is low so you have to be able to walk in a stooped
fashion in order to enter the burial chamber.

Lunch: Skara Brae Cafe

The caf is situated within the visitor centre and serves home-made baking
from a wide range of locally-sourced ingredients. Open daily from April to
October. The dishes on our menu are prepared with locally sourced produce.

Dinner: The Foveran

The restaurant boasts magnificent panoramic sea views over Scapa Flow and the
southern Orkney isles, as does the lounge area, where you can relax and enjoy a
pre- or after-dinner drink. Taking advantage of seasonal availability, and the
abundance of life in the clean waters that surround the islands, superb seafood
features strongly on Pauls menu along with prime beef and lamb from Orkneys
fertile and plentiful farmlands.

Day 14
Tuesday 28th
Cows and Dogs
We will be taking the 7:45am ferry from St. Margaret's Hope to arrive back on the
mainland at approximately 8:45am. From there, it's about 3 1/2 hours down to
Cairngorms National Park.

Rothiemurchus is a ancient Highland estate that now offers visitors and locals alike
activities including hikes, wildlife tours, off-roading, white water rafting, clay target
shooting and archery....you get the idea.

But we aren't here for the wild crazy outdoor adventure, oh no.

COO, TELL HER WHAT WE ARE HERE FOR.

HAIRY COO SAFARI!

You will get to meet, visit, and help feed Rothiemurchus' herd of
'Heilan Coos', as well as learn about the breed's origins and
importance in Scottish history and today.
(Don't let Allie steal one.) Highland Cows are described as gentle,
intelligent, and good-natured!

A short trip down the road brings us to Leault Farm and their Working Sheepdogs
demonstration. We will see up to eight dogs working as a team manoeuvring sheep
and ducks through various obstacles. Meet the collie pups, bottle-feed the orphan lambs
and take part in shearing a sheep! (Demos at 4pm daily.)

Rothiemurchus: For centuries nature and people have lived in harmony in
Rothiemurchus. At its heart lies one of the largest areas of natural forest in Britain with an
extraordinary variety of wildlife that depends on it for survival. We can enjoy this unique
environment today, because of the dedication and love of eighteen generations of Grants
of Rothiemurchus and the other caring families whose livelihood it has provided for over
four hundred and fifty years.

Lunch: The Druie Restaurant Cafe (within Rothiemurchus)

With a focus on Estate grown Highland beef, velvety venison and rainbow trout from
Rothiemurchus accompanied by seasonal produce grown by specialist artisan
producers locally and further afield, served in a relaxed, friendly environment. We
could talk about our exceptional Rothiemurchus pure bred Highland beef and our
velvety forest venison that taste amazing fresh from our in house butcher or made into
our homemade meals, our fresh and smoked fish, great seasonal selections of cheese
from amazing artisan cheesemakers both near and further away, our wowlocally
roasted coffee, leaf teas, our famed freshly made scones and cakes, local hand stirred
organic preserves and chutneys as well as fruit drinks and interesting wines, fab
chocolate and popcorn, shortbread, oatcakes and cakes all locally made till the cows
(or Red Deer) come home come and try them yourself.

Dinner: The Restaurant at The Cross

Here in the Highlands we are spoilt with an abundant choice

and supply of fresh, seasonal produce. Our aim is to entice
with our freshest local fayre. The Cross Restaurant has
always held an excellent reputation for fine dining and our
team continue that tradition whilst placing the emphasis on
a more informal atmosphere to provide a relaxing
experience for everyone.

Day 15
Wed August 29th
Home Again
Alas, all good things must come to an end. Our flight doesn't leave until 5:15pm, so
we have a bit more time to enjoy our final hours in Scotland. The drive from our
guest house to Edinburgh is a little under 3 hours. Barring any traffic or unforseen
circumstances, the plan is to head back into Edinburgh for a few hours just to
putter and shop. The airport is about a 30 minute drive from the city center, so
around 1:30pm we will be heading off to return Ol' Faithful (that's what I've named
our rental car even though I'm typing this in October 2017) and fly back home.
Even though our flight leaves at 5:15pm and it's a 7 hour flight, we technically land
at Stewart International Airport at 8:00pm the same day. Those 5 hours that helped
us snooze the flight away going to Scotland are back with a vengeance! After that,
its a quick jot back up to Albany and home.

Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the
place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there
see you di ferently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as
never leaving.

Can I come on the next trip, too? I hope it's real
sooooooooooooooon! Don't stop writing your story in
the meantime!

August is normally the warmest month in Scotland,

with average maximum temperatures ranging from
approximately 15C (59F) to 17C (63 F).
.
The good news is that this is also a slightly drier
month for the region. While the region still sees an
average of 21 days with measurable rainfall, the
average overall amount is down from the previous
two months. On average, 2 inches of precipitation is
expected throughout the 31-day period. As a result,
packing an umbrella or raincoat is still a good idea.
