DESIGN CONCEPT

The architects redevelopment aims to convert the current Victoria Plaza Mall into a sustainable commercial
complex. He also aims to add amenities to urge more masses to come, with the addition of parks and landscaping. By
redesigning the interior and exterior image of the main and minor building, it aims to get the attention of the masses. The
architect is also aware of the problems that the vicinity(complex) faces especially when it comes to flooding and thus,
aims to solve the problem.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
Just because a certain problem can happen anywhere doesnt mean we have to normalize it. Aim for the better.

DESIGN INTENT & SOLUTIONS
1. Utilize renewable energy to reduce electricity usage.
a. Mounting solar panels on the top of the roof.
b. Integrating PV glass with the skylight and canopies.
2. Maximize the use of daylighting.
a. Adding a skylight and use reflective devices to diffuse light into the interior.
b. Using translucent glazing and solar shading devices to reduce glare.
3. Use sustainable concepts in the planning of the complex.
a. Water recycling system with the grey water by recycling used sink water in flushing toilets/urinals.
b. Collecting rainwater from roof into a cistern for flushing/watering plants.
4. Reduce surface heat.
a. By using more ground covers, it absorbs more solar radiation and encourage cooling through evaporation.
b. Using permeable paving integrates the cooling methods into human activity.
5. Reduce flooding within the complex.
a. Addition of manmade marshes and vegetated swales into landscaping can naturally collect and absorb
rainwater. Vegetated swales also provide solar shading for vehicles.
