TheRhodesScholarshipisadministeredbytheRhodesTrust,Oxford,UnitedKingdom.Scholarshipsareawardedin20
Rhodesconstituencies(64differentcountries)aroundtheworld.SelectionCommitteesfortheRhodesScholarshipare
lookingforoutstandingleaderswhoaremotivatedtoengagewithglobalchallenges,to'esteemtheperformanceofpublic
dutiesastheirhighestaim',andtopromoteinternationalunderstandingandpeace.Inshort,SelectionCommitteesseek
youngwomenandmenofoutstandingintellect,character,leadership,andcommitmenttoservice,andwhodemonstrate
astrongpropensitytoemergeas'leadersfortheworldsfuture'.

1. Closingdate
Applicationsmustsubmittedonlineby23:59,localtime,15August2017.

2. Eligibilitycriteria
a. Nationality/citizenship:YoumustbeacitizenofPakistan,holdingaPakistanipassport.Candidateswithdual
citizenshipmaynotapplytomorethanoneoftheRhodesconstituencies.

b. Education/residency:YoumusthaveundertakenformalstudyataneducationalinstitutioninPakistanfora
minimumof4ofthelast10years,andhaveeither(i)completedaschoolorcollegeleavingexam(12thstandard,
Alevelorequivalent)ataschoolorcollegeinPakistan,or(ii)havereceivedorwouldreceiveanundergraduate
degreeormarksheetestablishingeligibilitytoreceiveanundergraduatedegreeatauniversityinPakistan.

c. Age:Youmusthavereachedyour19thandnothavepassedyour25thbirthdayon1October2018,whichmeans
youmusthavebeenbornafter30September1993andonorbefore1October1999.

d. Academicachievement:Youmusthavecompleted(orwillhavecompletedbythesummerof2018)an
undergraduatedegreefromacollegeoruniversity(normallyaBachelorsdegree)toasufficientlyhighstandard
tobeadmittedtopostgraduatestudyattheUniversityofOxford(butnotinanyeventwithaGPAbelow3.7).In
thisrespect,pleasenotecarefullytherequirementsforyourchosencourseatOxford.

3. ApplicationProcedure
a. Candidatesmayapplyonlinefrom15June2017athttp://www.rhodeshouse.ox.ac.ukviathescholarshipstab.

b. Youmustsubmityourapplicationonline,withallsupportingdocuments,by23:59,localtime,15August2017.

c. Inpreparationformakingtheirapplication,allcandidatesshouldreadcarefullythegeneralinformationfor
candidatesontheRhodeswebsite,theConditionsofTenurefortheRhodesScholarship,theinformationinthis
documentandthegraduateadmissionspagesoftheUniversityofOxford:www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/graduate.

d. Shortlistedcandidateswillbeinvitedtointerview.Nocandidatewillbeselectedwithoutinterview.Youmustbe
availabletoattendtheinterview,inperson,asnoaccommodationscanbemadeondateandtimeofinterview.

evidencemustbeformallycertifiedbytheRegistrar,orotherresponsibleofficer,oftheSchool,Collegeor
University.
d. AcopyofMatriculationResultSheet(orequivalenti.e.OrdinaryLevelsStatementofResult),HigherSecondary
SchoolResultSheet(orequivalenti.e.AdvancedLevelsStatementofResult),UndergraduateResultSheet,
formallycertifiedbytheSchool,CollegeorUniversity.
e. Afullcurriculumvitaewhichshouldincludedetailsaboutprizes,scholarships,positionsofleadership,
involvementinstudent,voluntary,communityorpoliticalactivitiesandanycultural,musicalorsporting
accomplishments.ThisshouldnotexceedtwoA4(12pt)pagesinlength.
f. Aheadandshouldercolourphotograph(jpgformat).
g. Asignedpersonalstatementofnomorethan1,000wordswhich:

yourcharacter.Agoodrefereeisonewhoknowsyouwell,ratherthanawellknownpersonwhoonly
knowsyousuperficially.Yourrefereesmustnotbepersonalfriends,relationsorcontemporaries.
iv. Choosereliablepeoplewhoarelikelytorespondtoyourrequestforadetailedreference,astheirreports
willbecrucialtoyourapplication.
v. Asktheirpermissionbeforelistingthemasreferees.
vi. ForwardtothemtheGuidanceforRefereesavailableonthefinalpageofthisdocument.Theywillreceive

5. SelectionProcedure
a. SelectionfortheRhodesScholarshipismadewithoutregardtofinancialmeans.
b. Ifyouhavedualcitizenship,youmayapplytooneconstituencyonly.
c. SelectionfortheRhodesScholarshipismadewithoutregardtomaritalstatus,race,ethnicorigin,colour,
gender,religion,sexualorientation,socialbackground,disability,casteorotherirrelevantdistinction.
d. TheRhodesScholarshipforwhichyouareapplyingisforentrytoOxfordinOctober2018andmaynotbe
deferred.
e. TheRhodesScholarshipisconfirmedonlyuponsuccessfuladmissiontotheUniversityofOxford.
f. ThedecisionoftheSelectionCommitteeisfinal.Aselectioncommitteewillmakenonominationifitisofthe
opinionthatthereisnosufficientlyqualifiedcandidate.

6. ProcedureafterSelection
a. PleasenotethatsuccessfulapplicantswillneedtoapplytotheUniversityofOxfordverysoonafterselection.
Fulldetailswillbegivenuponselection.
b. ThefullapplicationofsuccessfulcandidateswillbeforwardedtoRhodesHouse,Oxford,wherethe
Scholarshipreferenceswillbeusedasappropriateinsupportofthecandidatessubsequentapplicationto
Oxford.

c. Applicantsforasecondundergraduatedegreewithseniorstatuswillneedtosubmitapaperapplication,
providedonselection,whichmustreachOxfordbyFriday,1December2017.Candidatesmusttherefore
makeaquicksubmissionimmediatelyfollowingselection.
d. Successfulcandidateswillbeencouragedtodisclose,inconfidence,anymedicalconditionorspecialneeds
whichmayrequireacademicorpersonalsupportinOxford.Thisdisclosureisentirelyvoluntaryandis
requestedonlytoenableRhodesHousetoprovidesuitablesupportinOxfordandtomakethetransitionto
Oxfordassmoothaspossible.

Provenintellectualandacademicqualityofaveryhighstandardisthefirstqualityrequiredofcandidates.However,and
justasimportant,theywillalsoberequiredtodemonstrateintegrityofcharacter,interestinandrespectfortheirfellow
humanbeings,theabilitytolead,theenergytousetheirtalentstothefullandthedesiretomakeaneffective
contributiontotheworldaroundthemasdescribedabove.

ARhodesScholarwillundertakepostgraduatestudyatOxford,ataughtorresearchdegree,orasecondundergraduate
degreewithseniorstatus.Subjecttofulfillingtheentrycriteriafortheirchosencourse,RhodesScholarsmaypursueany
fulltimepostgraduatecourseofferedbytheUniversityofOxford,whetherornotintheirfieldofexpertise.Inallcases,
entrytoOxfordisverycompetitiveindeed.

Whetheryouhavebeenaskedtoprovideanacademicreference,oracharacter/extracurricularreference,itisnot
expectedthatyouwillbeabletospeakfromfirsthandknowledgeofallthecandidatesqualifications.

Academicreferees:Ifyouareprimarilyacquaintedwiththecandidatethroughateacher/studentrelationship,itis
expectedthatyourappraisalwillconcentratefirstandprimarilyonacademicqualityandpotential,althoughyour
assessmentofotherqualitieswillbewelcomedbytheCommittee.Academicrefereesshouldnotethat,inthecaseofa
