Students will be able to talk about different customs during the French Christmas Season

I will begin the class by greeting them in French and asking them about their excitement for
the upcoming holidays.This will act as a motivator. I will also write on the board (in english)
about what they are going to be learning:
Today you will learn:
how to greet each other for the holidays
about holiday customs in France
how to create a holiday card in French using Google Drawings

Lesson Body:
I will pass out my vocabulary list and go over the names of the holidays with them. They will
repeat after me to practice pronouncing the words.
Next, I will begin with a speaking activity that will teach and have the students practice
holiday greetings. I will first model for them how to correctly pronounce and respond to the
question, Quelle fte clbrez vous?

Group Practice:
Next, I will have them ask each other Quelle fte clbrez vous?/ Quelle fte clbres tu?
They will need to respond with Je clbre. . . I will write A and B on the board to designate the
order in which the conversation should go. The question will be Speaker A and the answer will
be Speaker B. I will have the students take turns asking and responding to the question.

Knowledge of Results: I will walk around the class to assist and giving verbal feedback as I am
listening.

Group Activity:
Next, I will transition into a reading activity where I will choose a volunteer(s) to read a
short article on Christmas Traditions in France.

After, I will transition into showing them how to make a Holiday Card on Google Drawings. I
will hand out step-by-step instructions on how to create a card on Google Drawings. I will tell
them to use the vocab list that I gave them to help with creating the card. (8 minutes).

Knowledge of Results: I will be circling around the room to see what my students are doing, I
will then give them feedback based on what I see. In addition, once they are finished I will have
them submit them to me for me to look at. I will write back to each of my students once I have
looked at every card. I am mainly looking for creativity and participation

I will review with the class some traditions and holiday greetings. Such as how in America we
do not celebrate St. Nicholas day on Dec. 6. And How Joyeux Noel actually means Happy
Christmas.

Method of Assessment:
I will have the students complete a research assignment that explores, more in-depth , holiday
traditions of France and French-Speaking Countries. Students may write either a paper, complete
a presentation, or video. I will be looking for cross-cultural understandings as well as their use of
french in terms of grammar (and pronunciation if applicable).
