Jack/Taralyn Lesson Reflection

1. One objective of the lesson aimed at having the students engaged in conversation

using the style names of the artwork and its characteristics. Another objective

targeted the students abilities to differentiate, specifically, between the two

countrys art styles. I believe that we achieved the objectives based on the

progress that the student made from the beginning of the lesson to the very end.

The student was being introduced to a subject, the subject being art, which

schools dont necessarily focus on and prioritize. At the beginning of the lesson,

the student was not able to engage in conversation about both countrys art styles.

However, during the activities, the student was able to use the vocabulary

introduced to describe their art piece. I also believe that we achieved our

objectives because at the end of the lesson, the student was asked to share what

was learned. The student was able to differentiate between the art styles based on

characteristics of the piece and the country the style was originated.

2. I feel as though we challenged the students vocabulary/language development

based on the fact that the vocabulary was a little challenging to begin with. The

vocabulary was based on artwork styles and tribes from different countries.

Repeating the vocabulary words over and over as the lesson was being taught and

the models were being instructed, the student was given an in depth introduction

to the vocabulary words. With the well-set introduction to the vocabulary, the
student was challenged to end the lesson by presenting their model and engage in

conversation using the newly learned vocabulary words.

3. While presenting the lesson, I didnt feel as though any of the parts were too hard.

However, I did feel as though some parts were on the easier side. The lesson was

aimed at meeting the objectives were the student would engage in conversation

using the new vocabulary and differentiate between the two art styles. The lesson

could have seemed too easy during the activities. However, at the end of the

lesson is where it became more challenging, due to the fact that everything taught

had to be put into context and presented. I dont feel as though there were any

parts of the lesson that didnt work the way I meant it to. Everything went smooth

and just the way I had planned, if not better. If I were to conduct this lesson again,

I would have more engaging videos. The videos included in the lesson seemed to

be long and hard to understand because individuals with accents moderated them.

4. If I were to repeat this lesson with an ELL student of the same age, I would

slightly change the way I conducted the lesson. I would make the lesson more

repetitive and drawn out. For instance, when introducing the history and

vocabulary, I would have made it more engaging and a little bit longer. Perhaps, I

could include a game that tied the history and vocabulary together as an

anticipatory set.
