Ted Esparza
Owner of E6 Physical Therapy
3870 Bartlett St NE
Albuquerque, NM
87109

Dear Mr. Ted Esparza:

I am very interested in getting to know your company through and through. All the reviews of you
and your staff are exemplary.

I would love to be a part of your team, joining as a physical therapist. I read about your company
through online research for an assignment I was completing for the University of New Mexico.

I am qualified to meet your requirement of a minimum GPA of 3.5 due to me having that exact GPA.
I am proficient in CPR and first aid. I am certified in CPR and can act quickly in response to sudden
catastrophes through my training. I have well over 50 hours volunteer experience with patients
that needed both physical and occupational therapy.

My mother is a physical therapist and my father is an occupational therapist, they have taught me
nearly everything they know over the course of my life. I have been taught an understanding of how
to fix muscular tightness, displaced disks, sprained body parts including the ankle and wrist, and
how to use critical thinking in order to determine how to get someone back on their feet (Ex. A
patient after a serious car accident was unable to move their foot away from their back, to fix this
we would put weighted sand bags on the patient's foot, increasing in weight until we could get the
foot all the way down). I have also helped assist patients with the flexibility of their wrists in
overviewed session by a qualified physical therapist. At my job I have had to perform immediate
care on an employee that fainted and hit her head against a metal panel, I put her in recovery
position, due to no spinal injury and kept her from hitting her head when she convulsed.

Thank you, sir, for taking the time to read this. I would greatly appreciate receiving a response from
you, feel free to contact me anytime on any of the sources I have provided.

Sincerely,
Brendan Bunzel

Education

First semester at University of New Mexico completed with an overall GPA of

3.77
Second semester at University of New Mexico completed with an overall GPA
of 3.2
Overall current GPA 3.49
Major: Exercise Science

Work Experience

I am currently a manager at Sonic since July, 6, 2017.

I was an activities assistant for Princeton Place, June, 3, 2016- August, 5,
2016. (Helped design activities for health care patients)
Employee fainted on job and needed medical assistance.

Volunteer Work

Over 50 hours with Advantage Home Care. I would ride along and be taught
how to do minimal care for patients.
I have been taught how to increase the functionality of joints by working
with patients that cannot bend their wrists
I have helped a patient put their foot down by adding weighted sand bags to
their foot, gradually increasing flexibility, through isotonic exercise.
At work as the only red cross certified individual on the clock, I took
immediate action and caught one of my employees as she fainted and placed
her in lateral recumbent position as to stop her from choking on her own
vomit and because there was no spinal injury. I stopped her head from
hitting the ground while she convulsed, then alerted EMS to pick her up in
the ambulance, too get her to a hospital as soon as possible.

Honors

I have received principals honor roll, my first year of college.

Certifications

CPR certified.
Red Cross certified.

MEMORANDUM

Date: 9/14/17
To: Ms. Zanders
From: Brendan Bunzel
Re: Reflective memo
Enclosed are the materials for my internships involving assignment 1:3 including: a cover letter,
resume, job posting, and other requirements/supplemental materials, which you requested be
received by no later than 9/18/17.
The reason why I chose E6 physical therapy for this assignment is because for starters they
were the only company that would actually get back to me after the first couple of emails and
secondly Professor Zanders told me to choose the hardest internship to get into to so that
when I applied for easier internships, I would already be prepared. I do regret my decision to
choose this company because the people running the phones didnt seem to know what I was
talking about when I asked them if they had any job postings, which ended up taking a lot
longer than I would like. I spent several hours trying to find anything about job postings
involving E6s company to no avail. I called one last time before I was about rewrite my whole
assignment to get a job posting I could include. A woman named Barbra picked up my phone
call and said that the reason E6 doesnt have a job posting is because the PTs that work there
have been there for 7 years and they werent interested in hiring any new candidates. I sent E6
a couple of job postings and asked if any of them could possibly meet their needs, if they ever
needed to expand their business. Jenifer Abel responded saying that clinic policy follows the
University of New Mexicos health sciences center run by Advantage home care services.
By far the most challenging part of this assignment was including the job posting, it isnt a walk
in the park, when the company I chose swore up and down that they didnt have a job posting. I

Page 4
overcome this obstacle by sending E6, 3 other job postings and asking them which most
accurately meets their standards of business and would be most likely for them to hire
someone that met those requirements.
Something that truly surprised me in this assignment was that there are companies without job
postings, unclear requirements to be a part of their task force, and the unwillingness to accept
any new comers into their clinic so they could expand.
If I had to do my assignment over again, I would have chosen OnPointe because they are more
clear on what they want to be a part of their clinic, and I would not have to call several people
just to get the information I need. The only problem with OnPointe is they stopped replying to
my emails which was a bit of a bummer.
After getting my resume and cover letter reviewed by two of my classmates, I received very
constructive feedback. There were quite a few minor errors that I over looked, one was rather
embarrassing but pretty funny, I accidentally put 2018 instead of 2017. I also didnt put a Mr.
before Teds name which looked unformal. One piece of feedback I got had said I should
include my job duties, not just the titles, if I had done this my resume would become a page
and a fourth of another page, which would look strange. Fortunately, the jobs I have had are
self-descriptive in the title, except activities assistant which I clarified on.
My classmates both had really great layouts for their resumes. I suppose Im not as Microsoft
savvy as they are, especially the guy I read first (I cant remember his name) but in my defense,
he was applying for an internship with Microsoft so Id imagine he must have some kind of
knowledge on how to make Word work for him. I believe my resume looks nice in a simplistic
way, but it would be cool to know how to create a resume like my classmates did.
My main question about resumes is, do employers that are not multi modal oriented and just
want to know your credentials, would they still throw my resume in the trash if I had chosen to
use a template instead of creating my own? Im just wondering because a lot of employers can
be rather old and not be very tech oriented depending on the profession.
Completing this assignment has made me much more confident in my abilities to get a higher-
level career. Before I definitely wouldnt have known where to start, I mean I didnt even know
what a cover letter was or that employers turn away people with templates used on their
resume. I will be using the skills I have learned in this class to apply for an internship once I have
completed my undergraduate program, probably not for E6, because they wouldnt except me.
This assignment is one of the most useful I have had in college thus far. This assignment
practices real world application to the t. I am really glad this class is part of my curriculum
because in the near future I will need to know the information I have learned in this class to get
an internship, and the field Im going into is extremely competitive. I cant remember the exact
number, but it was something like only 100 physical or occupational therapists are excepted
into the New Mexico therapist program a year. Having an internship under my belt will help me
a great deal with getting into the program I want to get into.
Even though this assignment was difficult I had a fun time figuring out all the information I
needed, and I definitely learned a lot.
