Subject: library renaming

While I can appreciate that Ernie Kell and Jackie were in public service to Long Beach for a good
many years, I would like to see my local library retain its' name The El Dorado Park Library. It is a
beautiful name and reflects the location which is helpful to those travelling there.

I think it would set a poor precedent to start naming public buildings after deceased public
servants and in particular, renaming a building they had no apparent connection with. I have
heard from several people that if it were to be renamed, it should be to honor Marie Reidy who
gave legions of children and adults a wonderful experience at this particular library.

Please also consider that while Ernie Kell is deceased, Jackie Kell is not. The discussion that
surrounds the renaming has been largely negative. I believe at last count, the neighborhood poll
on Next Door Neighbor was 25 not in favor and only 2 in favor of renaming. I wouldn't want this
to be hurtful to Jackie, especially while she is likely grieving her loss. I can understand why there
is a city regulation that requires us to wait a year after someone is gone to consider naming
something after them. While the intent was to honor them, the outcome may be hurtful.
