Svara Yoga-1

Haridas guruji was a popular figure in and around the mystic place of Lord Krishnas pass-times,
Brindaavan. Many would come in droves to listen to his melodious bhajan-s (devotional songs) and would
then listen to his esoteric discourses on various shastric tatvaa-s (spiritual realities) and secrets hitherto
not very popular.

Today was a great discourse on secret siddhi-s that our ancestors had mastered and Guruji spoke on many
saadhanas related to naadi-s, Praanic healing and breathing in accordance with the rhythm so eulogized
in our scriptures.

After most of the devotees walked away, some devotees keen on getting more insights, were seated on
the mat laid in front of the dias, upon which Guruji sat. This was a daily routine.

Guruji, could you tell us more about the naadi shaastra, praana and breathing as ordained by Shaastra?
queried Shyama, who was a regular saadhak that used every opportunity to know more from Guruji.

Guruji smiled upon hearing the question. He always loved those questions coming from devotees who
were keen seekers of spiritual knowledge.

There are many facets to the question you have asked. Such knowledge come to use from many
upanishats, puraana and aagama Shastra. However, today I would deal with one such knowledge that is
known as Svarodaya shaastra or shiva svarodaya also known as svara yoga

We are lucky to hear that from you Guruji! exclaimed Shyama.

Guruji continued, Svarodaya shaastra was delineated by Maheshwara to his consort Paarvati devi.

Svara refers to many etymological factors like the sound, the letters in Sanskrit and at a highest level
would reveal the meaning of brahman of the vedaa-s. svara can be said to be sva+ra = sva is oneself and
ra is ramana meaning sporting in bliss. The only entity as per Veda that is independent in brahman of the
veda who doesnt depend on any other entity than Himself to be in eternal bliss of the highest order.
Svara also can be broken as su+va+ra meaning su= bala or strength, va= knowledge and ra is bliss

No wonder then that Maheshwara says that this knowledge of svara is the highest of all knowledge and
is the essence of all knowledge in the world, knowing which there is nothing else to be known in this world
or beyond

why that is amazing guruji exclaimed other devotees there, already in awe of the science.

Yes said Guruji and continued, I will continue more on this topic, but suffice it to know some cream of
this svara yoga as follows: This science of Swaraa-s is the secret of all secrets and reveals the secret of the
essence of all benefits that a soul can have. This science is the crest jewel of all knowledge there is". (SS-
11)

"An astrologer without knowledge of the swaras, a house without an owner, utterings without knowledge
of shaastra, and a body without a head- utterly useless (SS-17)
knowledge of uniquess of naadi, praana tatva, sushuma, ida and pingala- would verily liberate a soul
(SS-18)

"If one has the strength of swara-s then one can attack his enemy or meet up with his friend. Wealth, fame,
pleasure and comfort are all obtained through the strength of swaras" (SSS-22).

All these are part of the beautiful utterance by Maheshwara to Paarvati in svarodaya shaastra so
saying Gurji smiled and stood up to leave, to commence his meditation on the beautiful Lord of the
Universe!

We will continue this in the next blog!
