Top it.

A beautiful tile laying game for 2 to 4 mosaic artists starting from 10 years.

Each player has his own color of mosaic sections in different forms. Each mosaic section has a certain
value and by placing a it adjacent to one or several other sections one scores the value of their own
and the adjacent sections also. Once during the game everyone can make extra points by the skillful
application of the Top it stone. Whoever has the most points at the end wins.

Play material.
32 mosaic sections (4 colors with 8 sections in each case).

4 Top it-stones (in 4 colors).

The game for 3 and 4 players.

(The special rules for the 2 player game are at the end of these rules.)

Play preparation.

Before the first game the mosaic sections are loosened carefully from the framework. Each player
selects a color and receives its 8 mosaic sections and its matching Top it-stone.

With fewer than four players the remaining play material is put back into the box. A player notes on a
page the names of all players and tallies the points during the game.

Play process.

The youngest player begins and puts any mosaic section onto the center of the table. Now in
clockwise order each player, if he is in turn, adds a mosaic section. The game ends when all the
mosaic sections and top it stones are placed.

Applies to placing a Mosaic Section:

1. No sections of the same color may be put laterally together. However, contact by the corners is
permitted.

2. The newly placed mosaic section must be situated in such a way that it borders on one or more
already placed sections.

3. The length of all bordering edges (between sections) must be equal. One section may not end in the
middle of another. (Translator clarification: You may place a large section adjacent to 2 smaller
sections as long as the combined length of the smaller sections is exactly equal to the larger section.
In reverse, you could never place a smaller length section against a larger one.

Examples:

May be placed: (picture 1 on German rules)

May not be placed: (picture 2 on German rules)

Point assignment.

The player gets as many points as the number on the newly placed section indicates.

Additionally, the player scores all laterally bordering sections. (only adjacent edges, no corner contact
scores)

Example: (picture 3 on German rules)

For the placement of the square player blue receives: 4(square) + 3(small triangle) + 6 (hexagon) + 3
(large triangle) = 16 points.

The player does not receive the 7 points for the green mosaic section, since it does not rest laterally
against the square.

Note: The player, who begins the game, receives double the points for his first placed section,
since it cannot generate additional points. These points are recorded on the score sheet.

Tip: It's best if you add the obtained points immediately. So you always have a current
overview of point status of the individual players.

The Top it-stones.

Once during the game each player has the chance to " Toppen " (use your Top it-stone). I.e. A bonus
score is obtained by the application of the Top it-stone. To Toppen, if it is in turn, place no mosaic
section instead place the top it-stone.

Applies to Toppen:

1. The Top it-stone may be placed only on a large mosaic section which has already been situated
(large square, large triangle or hexagon).

2. The mosaic section on which the Top it-stone is placed, may not have the same color as the Top it-
stone.

3. Only one Top it-stone may be placed on any one mosaic section.

The player obtains the value of this section (square, triangle or hexagon) and all adjacent mosaic
sections.

Examples: (picture 4 & 5 on German rules)

The blue Player sets his Top it-stone on the yellow large square. It receives 4 + 7 + 3 + 5 + 3 = 26
scores.

The red Player receives 6 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 2 + 3 =29 points for setting his Top it-stone.

Players would not receive any points for the sections marked with an X, since these sections
do not border laterally to the mosaic section on whom the stones were set. (this sentence
refers to pictures)

Game End.

As soon as all players place their mosaic sections and Top it-stones, the game ends. The player with
most points wins. In case of a tie there are several winners.

Special rules for the 2 player game.

The rules described above apply, with the following exceptions:

1. Mosaic sections of the same color may be placed together.

2. A Top it-stone may be set on a mosaic section of the same color.

3. The second player must place on his first turn a different mosaic

section than the first player.

Top it for 1 player.

It is also challenging to play Top it alone. Try it nevertheless simply times. Play with all the colors
according to the rules for the 3 and 4 person game. Well, how many points can you create? And can
you improve the result with the next game?
