Re: Usability Report

Date: November 23, 2015

The following is an overview of our groups Endless Records web suite usability testing. First,
there is a brief introduction about our test subjects and why they were asked to conduct the
usability of our product. Second, we state the setting of the usability test. Then, we list our
methodology, results, group recommendations and conclusion.

Introduction of Test Subjects

Our test subjects were all students that attend Bloomsburg University. All three subjects are
students interested in music and the music store in downtown Bloomsburg.

Setting
The usability testing was held at separate times that fit with the participants schedules. For one
usability testing, we met at the library at 5 pm but had to relocate to Sutliff for a quiet room and
computer with enough room to observe the participant. The second usability test took place at
the library on campus on a Saturday at 11 am. We were in a group study room.

Recording Responsibilities
The members of our group that participated in the usability testing were Gillian
Blackiston and Arielle Brown. Gillian served as overseer of the usability testing. She
ran the test by handing out all the essential materials in the right order. During the test
itself, she took notes for future reference. Arielle was assigned the role of observing the
test subject and taking notes throughout the testing.
Visual Observation
The entire usability test was closely watched by the group members present at the time
of the test. We did not feel the need to videotape the testing.

Timing
Gillian took note of the time throughout the process of the usability testing. She noted
how long the entire process took and how long the subject seemed to move through the
instructions.

Methodology
All the test subjects were contacted a week in advance to gather their interest in being a part of
the testing. After their confirmed interest, Gillian set up a time and place with each individual
test subject. Once everyone was gathered at the correct time and place, the test subjects were
given a small description about the procedure for the testing. This was to ensure they knew
what to expect. A short description about the project itself was also handed out. The subjects
were then given a consent form to sign. After the consent form, they were given a pretest to fill
out. The pretest was given back to Gillian before the subject was given the instructions to start
the test. The observation of the test subject began as soon as they signed the consent form.
After the observation of the instructions part of the test, the subject was given the post test to fill
out. After the post test was completed, we had a short conversation with the test subject about
what we observed. The purpose of this conversation was to give feedback to the subject and to
see if they have any more suggestions or questions for us.

Results
Having the instructions next to the test subject was useful because it allowed them to know and
see all the products that we prepared for our client. It was useful to follow along with them as
they went through them to catch any mistakes we as a group may have missed. Following the
testing, we conversed about the process to see if they had any suggestions to us.
Recommendations
One thing that the first test subject said was that some of the websites pages have wordy
language. We are going to see if we can change some of the language on the pages to make it
less wordy.

Another thing that some of the participants recommended was that the Home page could use
more information. They felt that there was a lack of information on it to truly guide users to the
right places in a rush. To change this, we will try to add some descriptions to the page to see if
a user can reach a page more quickly.

Conclusion
All of the test subjects seemed pleased with our web suite for Endless Records. Our feedback
has only yielded some minor changes, which we plan on implementing for the final project.

Appendices
Attached are the permission form, pre-test questionnaire, and post-test questionnaire for all
three of the test subjects.
