BRIQUETTE
A Briquette (or briquet) is a small rectangular (or of other desired shapes
which depends on the mould used) compressed fuel block (flammable
substance), made of materials such as sawdust, charcoal or coal dust used to
start or maintain a fire.

Advantages of BRIQUETTE
DOMESTIC / INDUSTRIAL

The briquettes can be used for domestic purposes (cooking, heating,

barbequing) and industrial purposes (agro-industries, food processing) in
both rural and urban areas.
It is one of the alternative methods to save the consumption and dependency
on fuel wood (firewood).
Briquette fuels are easy to handle, transport and store.
They are uniform in size and quality.
The process helps to solve the residual disposal problem.
The use of briquettes would assist the reduction of fuel wood (firewood) and
deforestation.
Using briquettes would help to minimize indoor air pollution.

Industrial use of briquettes includes the following:

Gasifier System applications
Refractory Industries
Chemical Industries
Vegetable Plants
Leather Industries
Milk Plant
Spinning Mill
Rubber Industries
Textile Units
Dyeing Units
Brick making units
Ceramic Industries
Solvent Extraction Plant
Food Processing Industries
Lamination Industries
Any Industrial Thermal Applications

Raw Materials
for Briquette production
For biomass briquetting the raw materials employed are mainly of
Agricultural residues (wastes), Invasive plants, Waste from bio-product
industries and factories and other agricultural residues which can be
individually Briquetted or in mixed form.

Merits of Wood briquette

Wood briquettes are made of dry, untreated wood chips
(e.g. wood shavings). They are pressed with high pressure
without any binder. By compacting the wood with this high
pressure, it turns into a fuel like brown coal.
Advantages Wood Chips
The advantages of the wood briquettes are that they have
a lower ash and sulfur content, compared to the fossil fuels. The carbon dioxide (CO2)
balance is even, because wood briquettes release just as much CO2 to the atmosphere as
the tree absorbs through growth by photosynthesis. In addition, briquettes have
substantially higher BTU value per cubic foot due to their density which means less storage
space and more heat released per lb.
Energy content
The low moisture content of about 10% leads to an energy content of around 5,0 kWh per
kg, depending on the type of wood. Green firelogs have a water content of around 50%
with 2,5 kWh/kg energy content.

THE BRIQUETTE PLANT
A Bio-mass briquette plant is one which takes waste products such as saw
dust, compresses it and then extrudes it to make a reconstituted log which
can replace firewood. It is a very similar process to forming a wood pellet but
on a larger scale. There are no binders involved in this process. The natural
lignin in the wood binds the particles of wood together to form a solid.
Burning a wood briquette is far more efficient than burning firewood.
Moisture content of a briquette can be as low as 4%, where as green
firewood may be as high as 65%.

PROCESSES INVOLVED IN BRIQUETTE PRODUCTION

Crushing
Crushing machine prepare suitable size raw material for biomass briquetting
plant. The requested size for briquetting is 3-5mm.The choice on crushing
machines depends on the types and sizes of raw materials.
Hammer mill is to crush small sized material with diameter no more than
50mm, such like tree branches, tree trimmings, wood chips, wood cuttings,
cotton stalk, corn stalk, wheat straw etc. Blate type wood crusher is to crush
wood logs with diameter less than 200mm to 3-5mm at any length.
Drying
Drying machine prepare suitable moisture raw material for biomass briquette
press. Moisture of raw material is important for making good briquettes. The
proper moisture of raw material should be 8-12%. The choice on dryer
model depends on the original moisture content of raw materials.
Briquetting
Biomass Briquette Press makes the biomass material into briquettes. After the
well preparation of raw materials, it is easy to operate and work at briquette
press to produce high quality briquettes. When machines rise to over 300
centigrade, the material can be fed continuously into briquetting press. First,
the color of briquettes may be a little dark or even black, but after a while,
the color will lighten to normal levels coming out of biomass briquette
machine.

PACKAGING
Final Packaging of biomass briquettes for commercial reselling.
They can be wrapped with a layer of plastic film by thermal shrink
wrapping machine and can be packed into bundles.
