Construction with Whitman, Requardt and Associates

Construction has been a way of life since man knew how to create things. Construction

has brought us so many magnificent ideas and monuments that exist today from the Great

Pyramids of Giza to the Pisa Tower. Construction has brought forth these monuments and

brought and inspired the minds of engineers of future generations into what to build for the next

generation to marvel and be inspired. One of these companies that hoping to achieve this idea in

their work is Whitman, Requardt and Associates. Whitman, Requardt and Associates was

founded by a man named Ezra Whitman. According to the Whitman, Requardt and Associates

website he is known as pivotal figure in the design of the Baltimores Montebello Water

treatment Plant and the Back river Wastewater Treatment plant. It continues with stating that the

Montebello has been described as one of the biggest and most important undertakings in the

history of the city as it meant pure drinking water for all of Baltimore. It significantly reduced

deaths from typhoid that prior to 1915, killed almost 30,000 people. At its opening, Mayor

Preston credited Whitman, Requardt and Associates founder, Ezra Whitman. He stated, More

than four years ago, when I went into office, I appointed as Water Engineer Ezra B. Whitman, a

Baltimore boy who had won his laurels in the new sewerage works. It was an experimental

appointment, but I want to say that it was due to him, more than to any other one man, that the

credit for putting this great work through without a hitch is due.

him to establish his own company and set the standards of the industry.

One of the employees who embrace this ideal that was set forth by the founder is William

Atkins, also known as Bill. He started in the industry as an Inspector trainee and worked all the

way to a Construction Manager. He started with VDOT in 2000 and was promoted to an

inspector in 2002, a Sr Inspector in 2004. A listing came out for a CM position in the Design

Build Section for VDOT so he applied for it and got the job in 2007. He obtained his CCM

(certified construction manager) in 2011. Then in 2016 decided to explore the private sector and

applied for a potion at Whitman, Requardt and Associates and started working for the company

as a construction manager 2. Bidding is a process which submits the proposal of tender for

undertaking or managing of a construction project, the process includes from preparing

blueprints, cost estimation and also material take off. The type of project to be taken and decision

is made by the vice president of CMI, Brian A. Henschel, in VA for the Whitman, Requardt and

Associates. Generally Whitman, Requardt and Associates find the project in all ways like VDOT

home page, local assistance home page, newspapers and also from lot of words while networking

at conferences. Theyve also received the projects from the same clients many times, as the result

of good customer satisfaction. For the bidding process the initial steps they take is to check

availability of people and also revenue. The bids are always carried on profit priority, usually

they carried out team work like set of people/parties are assigned for the bid process. For the

success and well being of the company the employees always have open door policy availability

round the clock. According to Mr Bill the hardest bid would be fine line of making money and

winning the bid.

 Finally, Whitman, Requardt and Associates theyve been successful in the industry for

their extreme commitment given by their employees. By allowing the discussions of projects to

be focused among profit will become secondary according to Bill if it allows the development of

relationship from clients. Although the decision are taken by the management members not

every hand gets a decision but if that were to occur there would no agreement in the project to

pursue. By the repeated clients we can say it has given a good customer satisfaction.
