Intro to Literature

Faith, hope, Love.

When we talk about love there are a lot of hope on the characters to be something and to

really love someone, and when everything turns upside down, we realize that the characters are

different from what they appear. Torvald, on this hole play, appears to be a loving, devoted and

generous husband. But it later occurs that he is not what we thought he would be, in the contrary,

he is shallow, concerned principally with his public reputation, and too weak to assist and to

promise support to handle any burden that would fall upon Nora. The Helmer marriage appears

loving, but turns out to be based on lies, both actors acting and an unequal relationship.

Krogstad on the other hand, appears to be a bitter, vengeful extortionist until he is

reunited with his true love, Mrs Linde, after this becomes more merciful and generous, changing

everything. I think that happened due the love that he had towards her. Mrs Linde first strikes us

as self-sufficient, but during the reading is clear that she feels "empty" now that her husband had

die and she has no one to take care or love, also look after. Dr Rank acts the role of friend to

Torvald and Nora, but during the reading we found out that the really reason for him to visit the

couple daily and to be so friendly is: he is in love with Nora.

I think this whole play represents in a way the love that one character has towards another

and some that does not have. Also, they have faith that one going to be there for the other. At the

same time, there are hope that their true love going to match. On my point of view, everything is

connected. Some characters do much to stay with someone that they love, on the other hand,

other character does really nothing to stay with them, who do things even illegal.
