D.A.C.A:Immigration Reform
Kevin Tafoya
Introduction:
Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals or more commonly known as D.A.C.A was
created in during the era of the Obama administration. The program was put in place to allow the
children who came illegally with their parents at a young age, a chance to obtain citizenship. The
group started out small but grew exponentially, now there is about 800,000 plus members of
D.A.C.A, otherwise known as Dreamers. Theyre called Dreamers because they sought out to
obtain a better life, when a better life didnt seem plausible. They dreamt it and it became a
reality, as a result they were able to come to America and establish themselves respectively in
our communities. The issue we are facing is they may loose sight of their dream as the U.S
government is considering getting rid of the program. If this is true we loose 800,000 of our own
people. Theyre not just ordinary people either, they are our soldiers, they are our students, they
are our colleagues, they are our dreamers. We cannot let the Trump administration bring the
program to an end because the dreamers are extremely influential to our economy, our society
and our armed forces. This paper will explore the prerequisites to become a dreamer, common
misconceptions, and the influential factors that makes D.A.C.A a great program for America.
Prerequisites:
Misconceptions?:
Talks about the misconceptions like how the Dreamers dont contribute to societ and what
The same way we were looking at the losses that would we can also call those benefits
for now because we havent lost them yet. As a recap those would be:
Personally I couldnt imagine UTEPs student body without the students that we get, that arent
from here. They influence our society so heavily that when you travel to a place that isnt 10 feet
from the border of another country it is so noticeably different compared to a place like El Paso.
Many people dont realize how involved dreamers are until they the wake up in a place like El
Paso where it is a normality. They push students every day to do better and they raise job
competition as a result they are making Americans more advanced in terms of skill and
education.
