4. Which treaty marked the establishment of the European Union?

With the signing of the Treaty of Rome, in 1957, the European Community was established,
whose name changed again in 1994, when it became the European Union, upon the ratification
of the Maastricht Treaty (which we will study later).

9. What is the difference between open and closed treaties?

From the strictly formal point of view, treaties can be open or closed; closed treaties restrict
access to other possible individuals, that is, they are concluded exclusively between the original
contracting parties and do not admit the adhesion of other States, or that adhesion depends on
the agreement of all the parties to the treaty while the open ones allow the adhesion of other
states.
