Working with children as they develop is one of the most rewarding experiences Ive had

the pleasure of partaking in. Watching as the children grow and learn new things amazes me

because you never know when a new skill will emerge. The mind is constantly developing and

expanding as concepts that were once basic become more complex. It is fascinating to see a child

that once could only count up to three go the extra mile and go to thirty. Being able to say I was

an aid in encouraging the youth to enhance their knowledge is what keeps me motivated to be in

the child development field.

I believe that children should be placed in an environment where they feel comfortable,

included and free to learn. The educational atmosphere should reflect the children and where

they come from in order to make them feel as though they are a part of the classroom. Being able

to look around and relate to certain objects will increase the chances of free flowing creativity

and help with the unconscious emergence of new skills. Every child comes from a different

background and they should all be treated with the same respect by every individual surrounding

them. While incorporating features in the class that will make the children feel welcome I will be

certain to keep the class anti-bias by respecting and embracing differences while ensuring they

are learning about the diversity in world.

There are many things that you can look for when trying to determine whether or not a

child is developing. Every child develops at their own pace however, it is important to conduct

assessments to ensure the child is developing appropriately for their age range. Providing

children with simple task to complete while over time adding more complexity and paying

attention to how they get it done can help you notice if their skills are emerging. For example, if

you give a child blocks and let them do as they please overtime as the child grasp the concept of

blocks and building youd expect them to build more challenging structures. If they dont you

may want to present a task to them such as building a tower, then from there determine what

steps should be taken to support progress in that area for the child. Also, by conducting frequent

assessments you will be able to track a childs progress in comparison to their peers. This can

help determine if intervention methods should be implemented to provide the child will the

appropriate resources.

When it comes to supporting children and the way they learn it is important to know who

you are working with. According to chapter one Observing creates an attitude of openness and

wonder that allows you to know and understand the children you work with every day. (Jablon,

Dombro &Dichtelmiller, 2013). In order to provide the best possible care you have to know what

is best for each individual because what works for one may not work for another. Especially

when working with children seeing as though they all develop at their own pace you should

observe and assess them individually and support them accordingly. Knowing what areas a child

is excelling in and struggling in can increase their learning experience due to you knowing

exactly where to help.

As a teacher my goals are to ensure the children I service are feeling at home as possible

and reaching their full potential. I will pay close attention to each child and be sure that I know

how they operate and what their interest are. In reference to chapter three Observations will

give you insight into children, and your relationships with them will be authentic (thomas,

popoe, & pope, 2013). Having a sincere relationship and letting my children and their families

know that I truly have their best interest at heart will be displayed through my work. I feel as

though children strive to be their best when they know they have support systems and as a

teacher I should provide them with as much support as possible. I will be sure to continuously

evaluate how I can improve in connecting with the children and families I service.

To make sure that my teaching is effective I will consistently test my students skills,

assess the progress being made and proceed accordingly. For example, if my children are

learning to write the alphabets on a consistent basis Ill have them write out the letters and help

them with the ones they are struggling with. If they seem to be struggling with the same letters

over time Ill know that the methods Ive used before didnt really help and ill adjust them as

needed. As a teacher it will be my job to progress as the children make progress. As a

professional is imperative to continually grow and learn new things as the children learn from me

I will learn from them and we will make each other better people.
