The Bicycle Thieves is commonly mistaken as Bicycle Thief even though the plural is really

important; because there are two thieves in the movie, in the beginning and in the ending. The film
is about poor guy who got a job but needs to have a bicycle to get hired. Many people are aiming
for the job and luckily Antonio got it. It is relatable to most people who are fighting for one job
and to poor people who will do anything, even if it is bad just to have money.
The Bicycle Thieves was a movie back in 1948 in Italy and it was directed by Vittorio De Sica.
The main cast are Lamberto Maggiorani who acts as Antonio Ricci, Enzo Staiola who acts as
Bruno Ricci, Lianella Carell plays as Maria Ricci, the wife of Antonio, and Vittorio Antonucci
who acts as the first thief. The film has high ratings and won a lot awards like Academy Honorary
Award, and BAFTA Award for Best Film.
Antonio Ricci was unemployed then finally found a job that is hanging posters around war-torn
Rome. He needed a bicycle for his work so his wife, Maria Ricci, sells the family bed lines to
retrieve Antonios bicycle from the pawnshop. The bad news is that his bike was stolen and
together with his son Bruno Ricci, they go around the city to find the thief and get their bicycle.
Antonio want his job back so he was intensively looking for his bicycle to the point where he
could not realize that his greatest possession was with him, his son. It is hard for them to have a
bicycle so easily but he got so obsessed in finding it and ignores his little boy. One scene in the
movie, when people said a boy had drowned in the river, he panicked and with guilt he looked
around because he thought it might be his son, Bruno. Though he did not even learn from it and
still keep on thinking about the bicycle yet ended up that the little boy saved him.
The most important role in the movie was Bruno for he is always there and even save his father
from getting into more trouble. I like the movie because it is realistic and it shows the true things
happen in the life of poverty. The film was greatly done, its cinematography and the content is
appreciable. It was absolutely clever, a real piece of art.
