Dear Dr. Bruce,

I took this English class with the intention of becoming a proficient, professional writer.
At the beginning of the semester we were provided with student learning outcomes (SLO) and
during the semester it was our goal to improve on and master each one. These SLOs include
rhetorical focus, ethical research, persuasive arguments, organization and focus, academic
language and design, and collaboration. The purpose of this letter is to present examples of the
mastery of the SLOs. The various examples I am presenting include my original and revised
resume, emails I have sent to iFixit.com, and a peer review of a classmates website. Each
following paragraph will go into further detail and exemplify how each assignment has helped
me master the SLOs.
First, the comparison between my original and revised resume will help showcase my
mastery of rhetorical focus, persuasion, organization and focus, academic language and design,
and collaboration. The audience of the resume was Dr. Bruce and even potential employers. The
goal of my resume was to showcase my skills and experience as well as reinforce the fact that I
am the right choice for the job. My resume also displays my organizational skills and language
skills by being concise, easy to understand, and easy to follow. Lastly, my resume was also peer
reviewed by other classmates and by Dr. Bruce in a collaborative effort to master the SLOs.
Second, we will analyze the emails I sent to iFixit.com. During the semester I was a part
of a group project where we had to collaborate with a website called iFixit.com. During the
project I had to email the iFixit tech support team in order to be granted approval for each step of
the project. These emails demonstrate the mastery of rhetorical focus as each email was
presented at a professional level. Furthermore, the emails demonstrate persuasion by convincing
the iFixit Tech Support Team that each step was complete and adhered to the objectives of the
project. The emails go on to show my organizational skills, academic language, and
collaboration by displaying good formal email etiquette, professional language, and each email
was proofread by associates in the group. I will also be providing an example of ethical research
by referencing iFixit.com.
Lastly, for our final we are required to create and present a website that acts as a
portfolio. We were required to peer review each others websites. Moreover, this peer review
displayed the mastery of rhetorical focus at a casual level.
In conclusion, I feel that I have mastered the SLOs and have come a long way since the
beginning of the semester. I feel that, moving forward, mastering these SLOs will aid my future
professional and academic endeavors. Although, there is always room for improvement. I believe
that the art of persuasion can always use practice with different audiences. I am hopeful that we
are in agreement towards the SLOs. I hope you enjoy and are pleased with what you see in my
portfolio.

Sincerely,
Aaron Banaga
