Writing Prompt #9

For this assignment we were asked to hold a conversation with someone about our

multimodal project, I talked to my roommate Max about how war affects an economy and what

he knew about it in general. We started to talk in our dorm room and that is where we held the

conversation, I asked him about what he knew and he revealed a good amount of general

knowledge of the topic which he attributed to his earlier history and current event classes he

took during high school as well as staying current with the global news. One of the best

questions I had asked was whether or not my topic had affected his personal life; to which he

replied that It affects us all in some way shape or form as our world is constantly filled with

conflict and events that can change our way of life and he agreed when I said that this is a very

important aspect of my project. I was actually rather shocked with how much Max knew on the

topic and I don't think the average person would be as well versed in this topic as he was. I did

not learn anything more from this discussion but as far as it benefiting the project I feel it has

done a good job at opening my eyes to learning how to better communicate with the audience

and understanding what they may or may not already know. Having conversations like this are

important because it also helped to make me a little bit more comfortable with talking to people

about my topic and trying as well to find a way to remain interesting to the average person who

may find topics like this to be boring or not important to their individual life.
