Game Instructions

INSTRUCTIONS
Objective of the Game

To be the player with the most points when the game ends

Preparing to play

Place tokens on the start stones in the centre of the board. Players should choose the city they
want i.e. Shiloh, Bethel, Zion or Canaan. No two players can choose the same city.

Playing the Game

Before the game starts, players get four cards each, two PEOPLE cards and two ANIMALS,
ARTEFACTS & OBJECTS cards. Players roll the die to determine the order of play. The player
with the highest number on the die will go first and the player with the lowest number will go
last. If theres a tie, the die should be rolled again to break the tie. The first player is the
scorekeeper. Players move around the board by rolling the die and moving their token in the
direction indicated by the arrows.

Trial Stones

When a player lands on a trial stone in another players territory, the player has to spin the
spinner and give up (to the player that owns the territory) the number of points in the square
that the spinner arrow stops on.

If, for example, the arrow stops in the 5000 point square, the scorekeeper will record it on the
scoresheet as minus 5000 (-5000) for the player giving up points and plus 5000 (+5000) for the
player getting the points. The points will be subtracted from/added to the totals of the
relevant players when the game ends.

If a player lands on a trial stone in their territory, the player does not have to use the spinner
and does not have to give up points. Note that the trial stones are colour coded by city.

Quiz Stones and Story Time

A player that lands on a quiz stone will need to answer a quiz question. The player has a choice
of answering a 1000, 1500 or 2500 point question. If a question is answered correctly, the
points will be recorded by the scorekeeper. If a question is answered incorrectly, the player
does not earn or lose any points.
After a player has answered the quiz question, it is now story time. All players can earn points
by using a minimum of two cards to tell a true bible story.

Players that use two cards will earn a 1000 point bonus, players that use three cards will earn
a 1500 point bonus and players that use all four cards will earn a 2500 point bonus.

As an example, a player with the following cards can use three of them in a story.

Abraham was going to use a Sword to sacrifice his son Isaac

A player that tells the story above using the Abraham, Isaac and Sword cards will earn a 1500
point bonus plus the points on the cards used i.e. 5000 + 2500 + 5000 + 1500 = 14000 points.
Alternatively, players can tell stories by linking the main character on a card (at least one) with
the attribute on another card even if there is no connection between the main characters. A
player with the following cards can use three of them in a story.

Nehemiah served the Lord and built a temple for God.

Although there is no connection between Nehemiah and Priscilla, the attribute on the Priscilla
card, Service can be linked with Nehemiah as shown above.

The story above will earn a player 1500 bonus points plus the points on the three cards used
i.e. 5000 + 5000 + 2500 + 1500 = 14000 points.

A player that cannot make a story with their cards can exchange cards with other players (if
they are willing) BEFORE any player tells a story.

When players finish telling their stories, they should put the cards used at the bottom of the
card decks and take new ones from the top of the card decks. They should take like for like
cards i.e. a player that uses two ANIMALS, ARTEFACTS & OBJECTS cards and one PEOPLE
card will take two new ANIMALS, ARTEFACTS & OBJECTS cards and one new PEOPLE card.

Peniel Stones (Holiness, Blessing, Worship, Prophecy, Righteousness, Faith, Praise and
Power)

When a player lands on any Peniel stone and they hold a card with the attribute written on
the stone, they get 500 bonus points. The points should be recorded by the scorekeeper.

Finish

After a player has travelled around all four cities on the board once and is now close to Beulah,
the player needs to roll the exact number of steps they require on the die to get into Beulah.

In a two player game, the game ends when a player gets both of their tokens to Beulah. In a
four player game, the game ends when a player gets their single token to Beulah.

The player that gets to Beulah first will receive a 5000 point bonus (in a two player game, a
player has to get both tokens to Beulah to receive the bonus). The points on the cards players
hold when the game ends should be summed up and added to their scores.

The winner of the game is the player with the most number of points when the game ends.

Enjoy playing Journey to Beulah with family and friends.
