Module 7: Writing for Activism
Topic for Activism: I want to become an activist for those incarcerated, who were wrongly
convicted or who were given an excessive sentence because of social or racial status. This
topic interest me and pushes me to give forth an effort in becoming an activist for movements
such as these. The issue matters because too many people are being exonerated yearly and
even daily, people are being framed, setup, or inaccurately incriminated and put into a
seemingly unwinnable position. Those who are wrongfully put into these positions feel that they
have no voice and i would like to help be that voice for them.

Audience(most importance): The most important audience for me to reach and try to
persuade a change of heart towards my point of view on the topic of activism I chose, those
involved in the criminal justice system, which includes; prosecutors, lawyers, judges, police, and
other law enforcers.

Genre: (I am not completely sure what was meant by this) The selection of genre i would
choose would be to use articles on the internet and maybe organize a company or organization
that specializes and focused on helping those wrongfully convicted or helping the criminal
justice system decide with decisions of who is and is not guilty.

Appeals: the main appeals I would focus on using to persuade people to become activist for
this topic along with me would be the pathos appeal. The pathos appeal is allows the strongest
connection between the persuader the ones who are trying to be persuaded. Pathos also easily
allows you to link a connection to the victim someone elses view and give them an
understanding of where the victim stands.
