From: Kamisha Collier-Project manager, Yaquelin Avelar- Research conductor,
Brandon Smith- Project materials coordinator

Purpose: Our purpose is to inform about the progress being made in

researching the original flu vaccine, the flu nasal spray, the steps we have
taken and are planning to take to complete our project.

Introduction: The reason that Texas Childrens Grace Hospital should acquire
the flu nasal spray formulations is because this product has the potential to
decrease the number of children affected by the seasonal influenza, which is a
major health concern. Annually, there is an estimated 3 to 5 million cases of
seasonal influenza in a severe level. With an estimate of 250,000 to 50,000
deaths. Medicine is constantly advancing, and this product has the potential to
be very beneficial to Texas Childrens Grace Hospital.

Completed Work: I have researched he original flu vaccine and the flu nasal
spray. Influenza is a serious disease that can lead to one being hospitalized and
even dying. The traditional vaccine works by causing antibodies to develop in
the body about two weeks after vaccination. The antibodies provides
protection against infection with the viruses that are in the vaccine. The
traditional flu vaccine protects against most common viruses during the
upcoming season such as influenza A (H1N1) virus, an influenza A (H3N2) virus,
and an influenza B virus. The flu nasal spray flu vaccine should not be used
during 2017-2018. Only the use of injectable influenza vaccines should be used.
This is because the flu nasal spray will not protect against the upcoming season
viruses.

Future Work: Brandon will gather the information about the original flu
vaccine and the flu nasal spray on Nov 14-18, 2017, and he will also research
why parents choose not to vaccinate their children on Dec. 1-2. Yaquelin will
view parent blogs to see how parents perceive both of these vaccines on
Dec.3-4. She will also create a survey to see how many parents choose the
original vaccine over the flu nasal spray on Dec 6, 2017.

Updated Schedule:

Task Date of Tasks (by weeks)

Task 1: Research the original flu Nov. 8-9
vaccine and the flu nasal spray.

Task 2 : Gather information about Nov..14-18

the original flu nasal spray.

Task 3: Research why parents Dec.1-2

choose not to vaccinate their
children.

Task 4: View parent blogs to see Dec. 3-4

how they perceive the flu nasal
spray.

Task 5: Create a survey to see Dec.6

how many parents would choose
the original vaccine over the flu
nasal spray.

Conclusion: I have researched information about the traditional flu vaccine

and the flu nasal spray vaccine. Our team will continue to gather as much
information about both before we decide to create a survey.
