Painting British Napoleonic Line Infantry JJs Wargames

Stage 1 - Black Primer and the First Base Shades

Colour Codes VJ = Vajello, CD = Coat dArms, H = Humbrol and CT = Citadel. This stage is simply
blocking in the basic colours on the figures. Try and be accurate with your placement as this will
form the shadow to your lighter shades.
The horse had a basic horse tone base colour with the Citadel wash, and then the socks painted
over.

Once youre done with these basic colours you can look forward to the first highlight stage
Stage Two First Highlight shades

The first highlight really starts to reveal the detail of the sculpt and your aim is to apply these colours
broadly over the base colour but leaving the creases and folds in the base colour. Dont have the
colour too thick as the aim is to have the shade thin enough to allow the base to impact the colour
above it.
Stage Three The Final Highlight

This is where you get to have fun and make those figures pop with the final highlight on those top
surfaces most exposed to the light, plus adding the final laces to the jackets with a base of VJ Ivory,
topped off with VJ White. Get the figures varnished, with their Colours up and some chords added
and youre good to go with the basing. You can follow my basing technique on the blog.

Note if doing a non-buff faced battalion, just do the straps and turn-backs as per the white trousers
i.e. buff, off white and white as your three shades.

If you want to go the extra mile, you can add Dark Grey lines to the Officers cuffs and collars to
suggest the button holes.
