Analysis

Analysis is very important in literary criticism. As HB Jassin in the Ikhtisar Kritik Sastra
explains that the study of literary criticism is the study of the good judgment of a literary product
by giving reasons for its content and form.1 Thus, literary criticism is an assessment activity shown
in literary or textual works. However, seeing the fact that every literary work is the work created
by the author, then literary criticism involves the problem of literary relations with humanity. The
main target of literary criticism is the literary work (text) and meaning for the critic-not the author.
A literary critic reveals the message in a verbal form with another verbal form, trying to find the
aesthetic experience of perception of reality to be conveyed by the author.

Literary Criticism Activities

From the definition of literary criticism above, contained clearly the activity of literary
criticism. In detail. Literary critique activities include 3 things, namely analyzing, interpreting, and
assessing literary works.

The analysis describes the elements that construct literary works and draws connections
between these elements. Analysis is also the decomposition of parts or elements of the literary
work. The analysis is also one of the means of interpretation. Meanwhile, interpreting
(interpretation) can be interpreted as clarify the purpose of literature by:

1. Focus interpretation to ambiguity, kias, or darkness in literary works

2. clarify the meaning of literary works by explaining the elements and types of literary
works.

A good critic does not necessarily be fascinated by what he is in love with, but with his
rational ability a critic must be able to make interpretations so that the literary work remains fully
acknowledged.

Jan van Luxemburg et al distinguishes six main types of interpretation, as follows:2

1. The interpretation that begins from the opinion that the text is clear
2. An interpretation that seeks to recreate historical significance
