Abstract

Being a Multicultural teacher could be a very challenging task. Teaching students about

different cultures and where they come from is very important for them so they could get along

with others. For example, multicultural education cannot be taught in a textbook. It must be

teached by an educator based on a particular student group. Teachers can help students discover

many of their strengths by helping them discover their own learning style. With more diversity

than ever, teachers have to adjust methods from one students to another for them to get ready for

the next year and the next. Multiculturalism is about more than a classroom with varied skin

color. It includes many experiences that shape each and one of the students from K-12.

Diversity acceptance in UTEP: A literature review of UTEP and all universities.

Multicultural education in UTEP is very different knowing that we live next to Juarez and many

students that live in Juarez are students at UTEP. And because of that our school is a very

diverse community knowing we have many different cultures here. It is ranked the number 501

in male to female diversity nationwide. It welcomes many students nationwide even the student

ration is far above the national average of about 40:60. UTEPS history was founded in 1914 and

it was known for the State School of mines and Metallurgy.

However, many years passed and everything went changing not only were they letting

white people in but also black people and then they started to let anyone in. By 1988 Diana

Natalicio became UTEPs first woman president and is today the longest serving still sitting

president of the university. Little did we know is that our co host from Despierta America

Karla Martinez a Mexican American graduate from UTEP is now a co host from Despierta

America. Even though there is many rumors said that Mexicans never make it it is possible. It is

even possible to become famous is you really wanted. We can say diversity is a very wonderful

thing in life because it brings many people and friends together.

education, as well as explaining the differences and the problems there used to be after letting

different ethnicities to the university.

How has diversity acceptance in UTEP changed over time?

Diversity acceptance in UTEP has changed over time by letting other ethnicities into the

university because before that only white students could study there. Until president Natalicio

became president. Most students seek diversity on a college campus, what they look for is

opportunities to express themselves and find community with others. The University of Texas at

El Paso is ranked #2,335 in ethnic diversity nationwide with a student body composition that is

below the national average. (The University of Texas at El Paso Ethic Diversity Rank (2,335 out

of 2,718). Many young people want to value the opportunity to meet and learn from other

students racial and ethnic backgrounds.

The chart helps students understand the Ethnic diversity the university has. For example,

most our university has is Hispanic/Latino and that is because we live close to the border and

many students come and start there degrees over here and most of the students do pursue with

there degree goals. Being a student at UTEP is the best thing that could happen to someone,

because being a multicultural student can be difficult for someone. A research study is set to

know that 60% of the students that are multicultural are more exactly to succeed in there careers.

Why are different ethnicities attracted to different fields of study?

People say that different ethnicities are attracted to different fields of study because of

where they are from and what they are used to seeing. Being a different person with different

believes does not mean you have to do what you were raised from. Many students when they are

doing their basics they change there majors many times because of being indecisive. And its

good because at the end its all worth it.
