added??

How does adding table sugar or table salt
change the boiling point of water?
Key Information:

A physical
property of water
is its boiling point
100 degrees
Celsius.
Supplies Formulas
Table Sugar: C12H22O11
Two 250 mL beakers
Table Salt: NaCl
Two portion cups
Table sugar Water: H2O
Table salt
Flasks with 500mL of water
Hotplate --
Protractor
2 Celsius Thermometers
Steps 1-4
Preheat hot plate to 550 degrees Celsius.
Measure 250 with the flask twice.
Fill two beakers with each 250 ml.
Put the beakers on the preheated hot plate.
Steps 5-11
Pour salt into a small portion cup and leveled it off using a
protractor.

Measure the mass of the salt in the cup and subtracted the mass of
the cup.

salt = 11.3 grams

Measure the mass of the sugar in the cup and subtracted the mass
of the cup.

sugar = 11.9 grams

The images display precision when each portion of salt and sugar were
filled to the top and a protractor was used to level each sample.
Steps 12-15
Measure the waters temperature using a Celsius thermometer.
Dont assume bubbling is boiling as water can bubble at 75 degrees Celsius.
Wait until the water reaches its boiling point at 100 degrees Celsius.
Pour the salt into one of the beakers of water.
Pour the sugar into one of the beakers of water.
Observe how adding each solute, salt and sugar, to the solvent, water, affects
the waters original boiling point of 100 degrees Celsius.

When either the salt or sugar, the solutes, are added to the water, the solvent, a
mixture is formed. This formation results when either the salt or sugar dissolve
and is a physical change which results in a solution.

Precision
Limiting human error is important when collecting a measurement.

Examples of when we exercised precision would be when when we

used a protractor to level off the salt in the cup held the thermometer at an angle so the water reached the immersion line
