Reflection Essay

ENGL 2116 has been a journey, one in which I have been challenged in many ways.

At the beginning of this course I was confident in my writing ability after the many writing

course I had taken in both high school and in my early college career, but this class made me

rethink my ability with the varied assignments we tackled in this class. Throughout many

assignments I had to work on superfluous language as well as removing myself from the

writing. I frequently would slip in and out of the first person while writing and for many

assignments this was not allowed and by forcing me to remain in the third person helped me

to develop a more impersonal approach to technical writing.

At the beginning of this course I wanted to know what exactly technical

communication was. As the course proceeded I learned bit by bit through assignments what

technical communication meant, while I dont have a full picture Im much closer than when

I started. I feel as though the course has done its best to try and explain what it was, but it

may just be something you have to come to terms with yourself.

At the end of this course I feel most proud of my informal tech report which doesnt

surprise me much as my strong suit in writing has always been reports. Beyond the

assignments already assigned in the course, graded or ungraded, I dont feel a need to add

anything else to the curriculum although I do feel like the memo assignment may have
needed more clarification as it seemed many struggled with it, myself included.
