Students give their input on their favorite SLCC teachers and classes

By: Sarah Hall

Salt Lake Community College is home to some of the very best teachers and classes in the state.
Not only are you going to school for half the price of a university, but you are also getting an
excellent education from exceptionally experienced teachers from across the nation. Whether
it be your first semester at SLCC or not, you should take advantage of the wide variety of classes
SLCC has to offer.

To prove that SLCC truly has amazing teachers and classes, students poured in their advice and
suggestions for great classes and who to have them taught by.

I liked Digital Marketing with Ahmad Kareh because he always drew the information back to
real life situations and he was very passionate and informed on the course material. You could
definitely tell that he really cared about the class which made it so much better. He went to
Harvard which I thought was super cool, he is crazy smart and humble at the same time.

Women in Writing taught by Jennifer Courtney is great because shes so inclusive and her
discussions are spot on. She tries to get everyone to participate and she is so informative. I also
like the Politics class taught by Michael Styles because he explains things so well and makes
sure we understand current events and are keeping up with the politics today. His views are
great and he makes sure that we know both sides of the story as well as giving us a different
perspective in politics. These two classes are so good! Emma Hall

Pathophysiology with Tana Marchbanks is the best class Ive taken at any college/university
thus far. She is an excellent teacher. The class is hard, but Ive never learned so much in one
semester. Caitlin Davis

I loved my Sociology class with Professor Blake! The class was well organized, had free open
discussion, and makes you think about things from different views. Loved his test structure
too! Nicole Maxfield

My favorite class right now is my Social Problems class taught by K. Zendina Mostert. I loved
this class because we analyze and discuss the many problems that are happening in our world
every day. I like that it isnt just off a PowerPoint, but rather a discussion based class where
everyones opinion and thoughts are expressed. The teacher is phenomenal because of her life
experience and involvement in the world. I have learned a lot about things I didnt even know
were going on and I feel much more connected with these issues and have a greater desire to
be a bigger change in the world. Michaela Madsen

My favorite class teacher would have to be Emily Putnam. She teaches Psychology and she
makes things fun by being interactive. We always have a social or psychological experiment in
every class. Alexis Peterson
I would have to say my Intercultural Communications class I took last Fall taught by Gordon
Storrs. He made our classes very interactive. We were able to speak openly about pretty much
anything because, well, it was a Communications class, and it felt comfortable because of him.
Bronson Wagstaff

Id say my favorite class Ive taken so far at SLCC is Documentary with Tyler Smith. The class
taught me a lot about that genre of film making, and increased my interest in it. Tyler was a
great teacher for the class because he has lots of experience in documentary. It was a fun and
educational course that I would take again. Jorik Ehrenstein

My favorite class would have to be an art class I took with Lana Gruendell last semester. It was
a super chill class and I learned a lot more about perspectives of art and the different types of
art. I liked Lana because she was really chill and she had been doing art for a long time. Greg
Hopkins

So, my favorite teacher this semester has been Marisa Maughan. Shes very qualified to be
teaching Anthropology as shes actually studied human remains and applies her own
experience very well into our class. She uses relaxant information and gives you every tool you
need to succeed in her class. Shes very responsive and incredibly helpful. Shes relatable and
funny and is always willing to share some funny memes. I wish I could take the class again! She
really rocks. Camille Gwynn

As you can see, students here at SLCC have had an awesome experience taking these courses.
The faculty is one that is highly recommended and it comes to no surprise that Salt Lake
Community College is an exceptional school.
