During a small unit on pigmentation of plants, the class did a series of paper chromatographies

of large leaves. The leaves were crushed, and the pigments were put on the paper. The paper
was then put on alcohol, which separated the pigments. The end result was this image.
Another lab was conducted at the time. The yeast lab was a lab set on the topic of cellular
respiration. Yeast is a single-cell fungus that is able to respirate a lot of CO2 bubbles given the
right heat and sugar mixtures. On the Friday of that week, the class had a competition to see
what mixtures produced the highest bubble count. One student won with over 200 mm of
bubbles rising from the tube.
