Dr. Wolf joined UNT as Vice President for
Advancement in May 2015. As the head of
UNTs development, fundraising and alumni
relations programs, he leads the university
through increasing its engagement with
donors, advocates and alumni, as well as
corporate and private organizations. Under
his leadership, the UNT Advancement team
achieved its highest annual fundraising
total ever with more than $30.1 millions in
commitments. Engagement also increased
with more than 10,000 donors and 14,000
alumni association members.
Dr. Wolf, a UNT alumnus with nearly two
decades of experience in higher education
philanthropy and alumni engagement, is
also a faculty member in UNTs College
of Education and a published author and
researcher on topics related to higher
education philanthropy and organizational
leadership.
Prior to joining UNT, he served as executive
director for individual, planned, and
regional giving at UCLA for more than five
years. At UCLA, Wolf helped build high-

performing programs in planned and major
gift fundraising. He also deployed UCLAs
first crowdfunding program.
Serving in leadership positions in university
advancement at the University of Southern
Mississippi, Dr. Wolf led USM to its highest
fundraising years including receiving the
largest gift in university history.
Wolf also led both athletic and university
campaigns at the University of Alabama,
which raised more than $500 million. Wolf s
earlier career stops included Cameron
University in Lawton, Oklahoma and the
University of Texas at Arlington.
Holding a Ph.D. in higher education from
UNT, Dr. Wolf has also studied in the
management development program at
Harvard University.
Most recently, Wolf, his wife Ashli and
their two children have initiated a second
response volunteer program at Liberty
Christian where his children attend.
NEAL J.
SMATRESK
President Neal J. Smatresk became UNTs
16th president in February 2014, marking
his second university presidency. A
dynamic, engaging leader with nearly 35
years of experience in higher education,
President Smatresk is known for steering
universities to national prominence by
providing quality, affordable education,
expanding research and innovation, and
building strong community partnerships.
President Smatresk leads UNT at a time
of strong momentum. UNT is ranked
among the nations 115 top-tier research
universities, according to the Carnegie
Classification of Institutions of Higher
Education. Home to 38,000 students and
more than 220 degree programs, UNT is
one of the nations largest public research
universities and generates an economic
impact of $1.65 billion in Dallas-Fort
Worth annually. UNT has 68 academic
programs ranked among the nations Top
100, including 16 rankings in U.S. News
& Reports Top 100. The university also
is one of the states Top 5 universities for
the number of degrees awarded annually,
with more than 8,900 degrees awarded
in 2016-17. As a university with a global
reach, UNT serves 2,500 international
students representing 145 countries.
UNTs global alumni network has 407,000
members.
Before joining UNT, President Smatresk
led the University of Nevada, Las Vegas
as president for more than four years and
provost for two years. He helped UNLV
become one of the nations most popular
universities among students and an
essential resource in one of the countrys
fastest-growing cities.
Before UNLV, he served as vice chancellor
for academic affairs and deputy to the
chancellor at the University of Hawaii
at Manoa for three years. President
Smatresk started his academic career at
the University of Texas at Arlington and
spent 22 years there, serving as the dean
of science, biology chair and a biology
professor.
A biologist and researcher by training,
President Smatresk also has devoted much
of his career to supporting K-20 science
outreach programs, STEM development
and teacher professional development.
President Smatresk earned a bachelors
degree in biology from Gettysburg
College, a masters degree in biology
from State University of New York at
Buffalo and a Ph.D. in zoology from the
University of Texas at Austin.

RYAN
G. Brint Ryan is the founder and Chairman
and CEO of Ryan, LLC, an award-
winning global tax services provider and
the largest firm in the world dedicated
exclusively to business taxes. He earned a
Bachelor of Science degree and a Master
of Science degree in Accounting with an
emphasis in Taxation from the University
of North Texas (UNT). In March of 2017,
he received the prestigious UNT Wings
of Eagles Presidential Award for his
transformative impact on the university.
In 2015, he was re-appointed by Governor
Greg Abbott to serve a second six-year
term as Chairman of the UNT System
Board of Regents, which he has chaired
since 2013. Mr. Ryan also currently serves
on the UNT Dallas Foundation Board and
UNT Pi Kappa Alpha Chapter Housing
Corporation Board.
Mr. Ryan won the Employees Choice
Award recognizing the Highest Rated
CEOs for 2017 by Glassdoor, one of the
worlds largest and fastest-growing job
sites. He ranked number 44 out of the 100
chief executives, making him the highest
ranked CEO in Dallas-Fort Worth and the

second highest rated CEO in the entire
state of Texas.
Mr. Ryan is designated among the Top
25 Most Powerful People in the State of
Texas by Texas Monthly magazine and
was named to Irish America magazines

to make critical recommendations on

state of Texas.

 ERNIE
KUEHNE
Ernie Kuehne (66), a native of Mart,
Texas, enrolled at the university on
a track scholarship in 1962. After
graduating from UNT with a political
science degree in 1966, he entered Baylor
University where he earned a Doctor of
Jurisprudence in 1969. He and his wife,
Pam, are staunch supporters of UNT.
He has three children: Ernie III (Trip),
Hank and Kelli.
Professionally, Ernie is president and
board chairman of Kuehne Oil Co., a
member of the State Bar of Texas and
owner of Kuehne Racing. He gives
his time and money to many worthy
organizations in the community. He is
a past president of the American Junior
Golf Association. For 10 years, he and
his family have sponsored Kelli Kuehnes
Teeing It Up to Cure Diabetes golf
tournament, which has raised over
$3 million for juvenile diabetes. He is
sponsoring four UNT National Merit
Scholars for their undergraduate
degrees. In 2013, he was a nominee and
finalist for Texan of the Year. Ernie is
an active Freemason, having received
the 33rd degree in the Scottish Rite of
Freemasonry in Washington, D.C. in
2015, and in 2016 was added to the Hall
of Honor in Washington, D.C. as the

only Texan to have been designated an
Architect of the Temple. In 2016, he also
received the Order of Knights Templar
in the York Rite of Freemasonry.
Ernie serves on the Presidents
Leadership Board and is a member of
The McConnell Society at UNT. He also
is a life member of the UNT Alumni
Association and the UNT Lettermans
Association. He continues to give back
to his social fraternity, serving on the
Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity Alumni
Advisory Board, which provides
professional leadership, counsel and
advice to chapter leaders. Additionally,
he holds a position as trustee of the
PIKE Foundation that provides direct
financial assistance to PIKE members
and monetary support for PIKE U, the
PIKE leadership training program.
As a former UNT athlete, Ernie was
inducted into the UNT Athletic Hall
of Fame (class of 2013) receiving the
inaugural Fred McCain Award for his
contributions and efforts to advance the
athletic program in major ways.
Ernie pledged a $1 million cornerstone
gift to help with Apogee Stadium and
other athletic department needs. He
chaired a Basketball Enhancement
Committee that raised more than $3
million, and added an additional $1
million himself, for a new scoreboard
and sound system for the Super Pit
along with a new UNT practice facility.
For his efforts, the UNT basketball
practice facility was named in his honor.
Ernies personal generosity is only
amplified by his ability to mobilize
his peers in the community and build
excitement for UNT. To honor his efforts
to sustain spirit among the UNT family,
the university presented him with the
Ulys Knight Spirit Award in 2013. That
honor was followed the next year by
the Distinguished Alumnus Award, in
recognition of his prominence in his
profession and the positive image he
brings to the university.

speakers to Dallas on behalf of UNT
resulted in the establishment of the
UNT Kuehne Speaker Series. He
pledged an initial gift of $300,000 to
launch the series and helped raise
an additional $1.5 million to ensure
sustainability. Today, the lecture series
is highly recognized for the nationally
prominent speakers it draws.
UNT has benefited from Ernies
unwavering commitment to his
university, its athletes, its students and
the community at large. His passionate
leadership and influence have raised
more than $15 million for athletics,
the Kristin Farmer Autism Center,
logistics and his speaker series. When
matching Texas Research Incentive
Program funding is included, the
impact surpasses $20 million. Ernies
passion for UNT is evident in his quote:
