I believe that my written response outlining my unique experiences regarding
social justice is an excellent example of how I have achieved standard two. During the final semester I was asked to comment upon a documentary called Schooling the World. The documentary was about how Western models of education are having profound impacts on traditional ways of life in non-western cultures. These models are being forced upon developing countries by the UN, World Bank and the IMF as a prerequisite for funds. Using the video as a prompt, Is Outlined in detail based on what I had witnessed and experienced during my time teaching abroad and how these experiences have made me far more conscious of the importance of what social justice is in the classroom. As I outlined in the written piece, issues of social justice regarding protecting students from economic and sexual exploitation, were one of the central reasons why I went into education. My writing illustrates that I am a passionate advocate for ethics and honesty being at the core of my teaching philosophy. I sincerely believe that the evidence no better represents my understanding that being an educator at its foundation means not just acting but being ethical and honest. Ultimately, social justice is how these concepts manifest themselves in the classroom and the community.
