Career Research
To start off with, I plan to major in nursing at Ohio University of Chillicothe. Now, from
there I can go anywhere. I can become a nurse practitioner, become a NICU nurse, or even a
nurse anesthetist. Even though there are a lot more options these are just the few that I have in
2. Although, if I plan to just stay in the NICU (which I will have to spend quite a lot of time
3. Finally, my last option is if I cannot handle the sick babies then to become a nurse
anesthetist because I would like to get to know more about this option.
In this essay, I am going to break down the credentials and steps it takes to become these things.
Once I have viewed all of my options I will decide what I would like to do in my conclusion.
In the beginning of my career, I will have to take specific courses when becoming a nurse
and be accepted into the nursing program. According to Ohio University of Chillicothe I will
have to take some biology, anatomy, chemistry, physiology, nutrition, and after all of that I will
have to complete clinicals. I plan to pass all of these courses with flying colors because it will
increase my chances of being accepted into a nurse practitioner program or nurse anesthetist
After receiving my BSN my options are wide open like becoming a nurse practitioner.
According to Learn How To Become,Many graduate schools require students to gain a few
years of nursing experience before being accepted into their nurse practitioner programs. Others
allow students to gain RN work experience while pursuing their graduate degrees. According to
when becoming a nurse practitioner you are allowed to treat patients, run test, and suggest
continuing patient care. With considering all of these aspects of becoming a nurse practitioner it
Secondly, my next option is when completing my clinicals focus mainly on the NICU.
NICU stand for neonatal intensive care unit. According to Laura Kinsella on Daily Nurse there is
no typical day in the NICU and she also states that it is a lot of running around and keeping a
close eye on the babies monitors with constantly checking up on babies. People often say that it
would be sad working in the NICU but for those few sad cases are a lot more cases that make it
out and live happy and healthy lives. There are different levels of NICU: level II, level III, and
level IV. The higher the level the more serious the cases and programs are as Innerbody displays.
In the end, a NICU nurse seems like a time consuming job with high intensity and that might be
for me in the beginning but I do not feel like I would enjoy doing that everyday for the rest of my
life. However, if I only worked a few years in the NICU it would help get into a nurse
practitioner program.
Finally, if I cannot handle being around sick infants and become too attached in my
clinicals I plan on becoming a nurse anaesthetist. I have always found surgery amazing and I

have a very strong stomach. It takes around 7 years to become a nurse anaesthetist. Additionally
After completing an accredited program, candidates must pass the National Certification
Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA). Finally, every two years, nurse
education.
Overall, I have conducted the research and it does not seem promising. My job could always be
up at stake and that is not what I would like to worry about when raising a family of my own. I
feel as if my job will corrupt my home life and having first hand experience in that I would
All in all, these three career options are still in my mind and for right now I choose the
path to becoming a Nurse Practitioner. Although, that might change once I get some clinical
hours in and maybe realize that it is not for me. So, maybe I could just stick to being a NICU
nurse for a while until I figure out if I want to move on or if I want to stay there. Honestly, while
collecting information over these three career paths it has broaden my horizon on every single
one of these. This research has made me bracket each career into a specific place just incase life
becomes to hard or if I am not stressed at that point and time in life. It just depends, so with time
I will make my decision and this research will have informed me in ways I was not informed
before. They are still option just now I have understood each and every path I can take and that
