consequently.Treated as an expression of the past due to its existence through

ages , its been a vital source of reference for mankind to relate and understand the

Architecture as an adaptive , adaptable and responsive media as responded to the

past in its own way to build residences , places of worship, public places etc and
adapt. It lso has been adaptive with relevance to the period incorporating social,
topgrpahical and geographical information

Historical remnants,a rhcitectural or non architectural, perceived as a representative

of past, physically exists in the present too

The existence of the past in the present can challenge the notion of the the tern
historic itself due to its potential to hold more history.

Further at present the above hs gone unnoticed as these historic references are
experienced isolated by the context they’re preserved in leading to theor limited
understanding. Thus, architecture being a responsive medium, must respond to the
past and narrate its archeologocal context

Epics including Silapaddikaram and Manimekhalai have referred to Poompuhar as

the Chola capital. The earliest extant record of the dynasty is the biography of Raja
Karikalan, who ruled around second century A.D. But the Cholas are believed to go
back to even before Christ, Once a flourishing ancient port city known as
Kaveripoompattinam, Poompuhar served as the capital of the early Chola kings for a
few years. The Sangam-era epics of Tamil
literature, Silapathikaram and Manimekalai, extol and herald the city and the life of
its people in detail. Located at the mouth of the Cauvery River, it is believed that
much of the town was washed away by a powerful sea storm and the successive
erosion it caused during 500 AD. In 2006, the National Institute of Ocean Technology
conducted some underwater surveys that revealed the submerged remains of the
