To Whom it May Concern:

I am writing to recommend Moriah Cooper for out-of-state student teaching. As a dual Spanish/TESOL
Teaching Major, Ms. Cooper was my student and my advisee. She also participated in a community
engagement project with that I coordinated at the YWCA in Waterloo, IA. Finally, I am also familiar with
her success in a semester-long study abroad program in Spain. I will elaborate on my observations in
these contexts to illustrate the talent, reliability and enthusiasm Ms. Cooper brings to all her
interactions, as well as her capacity as a teacher.

Ms. Cooper was my student in an Advanced Conversation and Reading (in Spanish) class. Her
language abilities are strong and she readily participated in classroom discussions. It was especially
evident to me that Ms. Cooper has a strong commitment to community and ability to work in diverse
settings as I observed her take part in a community-based learning project that was embedded in this
course. The student population of adult language learners at the YWCA hails from multiple countries
around the world, and a wide variety of language backgrounds. Ms. Cooper was immediately at ease
with the students, whose language abilities span across a wide range. She was friendly, organized and
receptive to their needs.

Ms. Cooper also took part in a semester-long study abroad program at the University of Oviedo in
Spain. She enjoyed a stay with a Spanish host family throughout the semester which augmented her
learning both of Spanish and of intercultural practices. In both aspects of the program, Ms. Cooper
experienced great success. She is truly adept at moving though languages and cultures and is sure to
thrive in an array of settings as a practice teacher.

In short, I highly recommend Moriah Cooper and anticipate she will experience great success in an
out-of-state placement for student teaching.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Cooley, Ph.D.
