Southern Virginia University

After the civil war ended, Alice Scott Chandler opened a private school for children in

her hometown. The following year she moved the school to Bowling Green, Virginia. This was

called the “Bowling green female seminary”. The school was founded in the year 1872.

The Southern Virginia University’s mission is to prepare leader-servants of the world.

The University are followers of The Church of Jesus Christ and welcome all who share and

respect their values. The University can be found at: University Hill Drive, Buena Vista, VA

24416. One semester at this University will cost $7,450.

The minimum test scores for admission to Southern Virginia University are a 17 on the

ACT or an SAT minimum requirement of 810 (two part), or 1210 (three part). Freshman scores

are usually a 23 on the ACT or 1550 on the SAT.

The Southern Virginia University offers Biochemistry, Biology, Business Management,

Computer Science, English, History, Liberal Arts, Music, Mathematics, Politics, Psychology,

and Theatre as their majors.

Southern Virginia University is located in Buena Vista, Virginia, in the Blue Ridge

Mountains and the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. Buena Vista is a town of just over 6,000

residents. It is approximately six miles east of Lexington, 50 miles north of Roanoke, and 165

miles southwest of Washington, D.C.

Scholarships, Student Association Leadership Scholarships, Missionary and Humanitarian

Scholarships, and Talent Scholarships.

Personal career counseling is offered at the University. They boast that 90% of alumni

get employed within a year. Students are coached to take tests like the GRE or LSAT. Professors

say they get to know their students and write strong letters of recommendation.

The campus life at this university includes clubs, and a Student Association. There are

many sporting events to attend and they even have their own football team and have 20 different

sponsored sports for both boys and girls. The University also offers fine and performing arts

shows/ courses.

Housing on campus is made up of seven different options on where to stay. Most of

which are ~2 minutes from campus and cost around $500 a month. There are options for an all

male or female housing. Housing comes with 3 bedrooms and 3 baths. They have kitchens and

can hold six residents. These come with washers, dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, and a oven.

They are fully furnished as well. Drugs and alcohol are not allowed on campus. Guests under the

age of 16 are not allowed to stay and no guests can stay for more than 7 days. Pets and animals

are not allowed on campus. Students will be asked to pay a $250 security deposit up front before

moving in.

For an all access meal plan, that will cost $1,675 and this means students can go to the

dining hall as much as they wish along with purchasing 15 meals from the cafe a week.

Fourteen meals a week at the dining hall will cost $1,395 and this means you can get 14 meals at

the dining hall or the cafe.

Seven meals a week costs $750 and allows 7 meals at the dining hall or cafe per week.
